(2026 - 2027 School Year)

Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School

Brooklyn, New York

What is the Role?

The College and Postsecondary Success Team plays a critical role in ensuring that 100% of our scholars are equipped with the knowledge and tools to navigate their college and career journey successfully. We aim to ensure that at least 95% of our seniors matriculate into college, while also providing support for those who pursue alternative pathways after graduation. As a Postsecondary College Counselor at Coney Island Prep, you will work closely with your fellow counselors and the Alumni Success Team to foster a strong college-going culture. The team collaborates with junior and senior students, high school staff, families, colleges, universities, and community partners to provide comprehensive guidance and support, ensuring students are well-prepared to succeed in college. Your work will focus on guiding juniors and their families through the college search and application process, facilitating a seamless transition from high school to what’s next.

The Postsecondary College Counselors work in our high school and report to the Director of College & Postsecondary Success. This leave replacement position runs through December 2026. Employment past December 2026 is contingent upon performance and vacancies within and across the organization.

What You’ll Be Asked To Do

Collaborate and co-lead College and Career Readiness (CCR) courses in the fall of 2026.

  • Teach classes of 15-25 juniors twice weekly in curriculum relevant to the college application process
  • Manage the course through planning, grading, and classroom culture in collaboration with the school culture team
  • Collaborate with fellow college counselors to monitor classrooms and provide additional assistance to students outside your caseload as needed; engage in weekly team planning meetings
  • Monitor duties that support school-wide initiatives, including hallway, lunch, and transition duties
  • Facilitate student advisory group, in homeroom spaces and weekly meetings with a group of 10-12 students; promote academic success, college readiness, career awareness, and self-discovery
  • Occasionally hold office hours immediately after school
  • Maintain weekly grades and daily attendance in PowerSchool for juniors in your sections
  • Support students with disabilities in your caseload by attending their IEP meetings and finding colleges that will continue to provide them with the specific supports to be successful beyond high school

Deliver exceptional results by ensuring all scholars matriculate to their best-matched college or university.

  • Support students and their families through revising personal statements, researching and editing their college lists
  • Correspond with college admissions and scholarship representatives to schedule visits, info sessions, interviews, and fly-ins; encourage students to attend
  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver signature college counseling events including our Junior College Readiness for Families Nights, student college visits, parent financial aid workshops, and a fall school wide trip
  • Train for and fully utilize Overgrad resources to facilitate the college search and application process; manage student and college data
  • Commit to constant professional and personal growth by working closely with the Director of College & Postsecondary Success and attending professional development training

What You’ll Need

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
