Job Description

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Commis (Butcher) to join our team at our butchery in Constance Prince Maurice, Mauritius. In this role, you will work alongside our experienced butchers to support all aspects of meat preparation, stock management, and customer service. The successful candidate will be organised, efficient, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene and safety. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills in a professional food retail environment.

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic workspace, including regular cleaning and sanitisation of equipment, surfaces, and tools
  • Support stock management activities, including receiving, checking, and rotating meat inventory to ensure freshness and quality
  • Assist with counter operations and provide support to customers, answering enquiries about meat products and availability
  • Follow all food safety regulations, health and safety protocols, and company procedures at all times
  • Operate and maintain butchery equipment safely and responsibly, reporting any faults or maintenance issues promptly
  • Support the team during busy periods to ensure efficient workflow and timely service delivery
  • Assist with general housekeeping duties and waste management in accordance with food safety standards

Qualifications

**Required Qualifications:**

• Food hygiene certification or willingness to obtain certification within the first three months of employment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude towards work
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Basic communication skills and a customer-focused approach

**Desirable Qualifications:**

  • Previous experience in butchery, meat preparation, or food retail environments
  • Knowledge of different meat cuts, quality standards, and meat handling best practices
  • Experience in customer service or counter operations
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in meat preparation techniques
