About us
Constructor Labs is the research arm of Constructor Knowledge, based at Campus Ring 1 in Bremen, Germany. Our work is organized around three units: Knowledge Labs, Cyber Labs and Science Labs. We apply computing, software and robotics research to make scientists, teachers and students more effective, working with institutional partners that include CERN, NUS, Carnegie Mellon and Fraunhofer.
Constructor Practice is the hands-on practice platform within the Constructor Technology learning suite, alongside Learn, Assess, Proctor, Schedule and Groups. It spans an unusually broad portfolio: curriculum-aligned virtual science labs; the evidence-based intervention products Calcularis (numeracy and dyscalculia), Grafari/Orthograph (literacy and dyslexia); and browser-based Software & IT and Coding labs for technical training. Shared capabilities include cloud-based hands-on environments with no installation, automated assessment and grading, group assignments and instructor assistance, LMS integration, and learner analytics and dashboards.
The product is in production across three distinct markets. Higher education and research, schools and public education authorities, and corporate and vocational training. The platform operates under GDPR, FERPA, COPPA and SOPIPA commitments.
About the Role
You will own Constructor Practice content portfolio of products (currently includes Practice: Science Labs and Practice: Schools Math and Literacy with future extension to other disciplines) end to end: strategy, roadmap, commercial performance and delivery. This is a lead product management position with full accountability for the product line rather than for a single feature area or squad.
The scope is wider than a conventional PM role. You will sit in front of clients during presales, shape the go-to-market with sales and marketing, define the roadmap across a portfolio serving three different buyer types, and work with product owners and engineering to bring releases in on time and on budget. Where the product line needs something that has no owner, it is yours.
Practice has an established customer base and a portfolio that has grown through acquisition and expansion into markets with little in common: a Swiss canton buying dyscalculia intervention for primary schools has almost nothing in common with Acronis training its partner ecosystem. Bringing coherence to that portfolio, deciding what to invest in, what to standardize and what to retire, is the central problem of this role.
Reporting and scope
- Reports to: Head of SI and Edu, Constructor Labs.
- Level: Lead Product Manager. You will lead the product team including product owners, engineers and subject matter experts, with a view to building a larger product team as the line grows.
- Product surface: all Constructor Practice content products, namely Science Labs, Calcularis, Grafari/Orthograph, Software & IT and Coding, in cooperation with the shared platform layer covering assessment, analytics, LMS integration and deployment.
- Markets: higher education and research institutions, schools and public education authorities, and corporate and vocational training providers.
- Interfaces: engineering and product owners, presales and sales, marketing, customer success and support, Constructor Tech engineering and product teams, Nexademy content team, Constructor Labs research, and Constructor Labs Solutions as an integration channel.
The role is both outward and inward facing. You are expected to be in client conversations and in sprint reviews in the same week, and to carry what you learn in one into the other.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Product strategy. Set the direction for Practice across its three markets: where to invest, where to standardize on shared platform capability, and where a module should be sustained rather than developed. Maintain a defensible view of the competitive position against virtual lab providers, intervention software and hands-on technical training platforms.
Roadmap and prioritization. Own a published roadmap with a clear rationale for sequencing, balancing client commitments, platform debt, regulatory requirements and new capability. Say no in a way that holds up, and keep the roadmap current as commitments change.
Discovery and requirements. Work directly with teachers, learning designers, lab administrators, IT staff and corporate training leads to establish what the product needs to do. Translate that into specifications, acceptance criteria and measurable outcomes rather than feature lists.
Delivery with engineering. Work with product owners and development teams through planning, sprint reviews and release. Hold scope, schedule and budget together, escalate early when one of the three has to give, and make the trade-off explicit rather than absorbing it quietly.
Presales support. Act as the product authority in qualified opportunities: demonstrations, solution design, technical objection handling, RFP and tender responses, security and compliance questionnaires. Judge which client-specific requests are viable and which are not.
Go-to-market. Own positioning, messaging and the launch plan for each release and module, working with marketing and sales enablement. Produce the materials that let the sales team sell Practice without you in the room.
Client relationships. Run a regular cadence with reference and strategic accounts, gather structured feedback, manage expectations on committed features and turn successful deployments into case studies and references.
Pricing and commercials. Own the pricing and packaging model across modules and market segments, with input on licensing, bundling within the Constructor learning suite, and the commercial terms of custom work.
Compliance and trust. Keep the product aligned with GDPR, FERPA, COPPA and SOPIPA obligations and with accessibility requirements, working with legal and security. Child-facing products in public education carry a higher bar, and meeting it is part of the roadmap.
Performance measurement. Instrument the product, track adoption, engagement and learning outcomes, and use the evidence to decide what to build next and what to stop.
Qualifications & Experience:
Product ownership at scale. Five or more years in product management, including at least three owning a B2B SaaS product line with revenue accountability rather than a single feature area.
Education or adjacent domain. Experience with EdTech, assessment, e-learning, corporate L&D tooling or another domain where the buyer, the administrator and the end user are three different people with different measures of success.
Delivery discipline. A track record of shipping on committed dates and budgets with agile teams, working through product owners and engineering leads, and managing the scope conversations that make that possible.
Commercial fluency. Comfort in front of clients and in presales, with the ability to run a demonstration, defend a roadmap position and contribute to pricing and packaging decisions.
Technical credibility. Enough depth in cloud platforms, LMS integration standards such as LTI and SCORM, APIs and analytics to hold your own with engineering and with a client's IT team, without needing to write the code yourself.
Evidence-based decisions. Fluency with product analytics and experimentation, and the judgement to distinguish a signal worth acting on from a loud customer.
Portfolio judgement. Experience managing several products or modules at once, and a willingness to make and defend investment and retirement decisions.
Languages. Business-fluent English. German is a bonus, given the Swiss, German and Austrian school and public-sector customer base.
Communication. Written and verbal clarity with audiences ranging from a primary school teacher to a university CIO to a development team.
Nice to have
- Experience with virtual labs, simulation environments or browser-based development and IT training environments.
- Background in special educational needs, learning intervention or evidence-based pedagogy, particularly dyscalculia or dyslexia support.
- Familiarity with public-sector education procurement in DACH, including cantonal and Länder-level buying.
- Experience with student data privacy regimes (GDPR in an education context, FERPA, COPPA, SOPIPA) and WCAG accessibility conformance.
- Prior work in a group structure where a product is sold both directly and through an integration or services channel.
- A background in teaching, instructional design or learning science.
What we offer
- A product line with an established base, in production with universities, public education authorities and corporate academies across Europe and beyond.
- Genuine end-to-end ownership, from strategy and pricing through to release, without the role being split across a commercial owner and a delivery owner.
- Access to our researchers, including principal investigators and education methodologists from Constructor Labs, and the ability to route applied research questions into the Labs.
- Salary and annual bonus tied to the product line's commercial and delivery targets. The band is competitive for a lead product role in DACH or the UK and depends on location and experience.
- A distribution channel beyond direct sales, through Constructor Labs Solutions and the partner network.
