Role Overview

We are looking for an SDE-2 – Backend Engineer to design and build backend services powering learning and governance products serving millions of users across India. You will own end-to-end delivery of REST APIs, microservices, and AI-enhanced backend features, while working with infrastructure teams across cloud, on-premise, and State Data Centre (SDC) environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement robust, scalable, and well-documented REST APIs.
  • Design and develop low-latency, high-availability, high-performance backend applications.
  • Build AI-enhanced/agent-driven backend features using LangChain, CrewAI, or similar tools.
  • Build backend services capable of handling large-scale data with clean separation of concerns.
  • Work with frontend teams to integrate backend services with UI components.
  • Test software for responsiveness, correctness, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement solutions to improve scale, performance, and development efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot application and production issues and collaborate with infrastructure teams during major incidents.
  • Install, configure, automate, and deploy applications across cloud and on-premise/SDC environments.
  • Perform technical deep-dives, research solutions, and contribute to engineering best practices.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in JavaScript (ES6+) and Node.js.
  • Strong knowledge of Express.js / Restify and Node.js concepts including the Event Loop.
  • Strong understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms.
  • Experience building large-scale backend services and high-availability applications.
  • Experience with MySQL and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and DynamoDB.
  • Strong SQL skills, including complex SQL queries.
  • Understanding of WebSockets, Microservices architecture, Clean Architecture, and SOLID principles.
  • Good knowledge of Linux, including basic commands, package installation, and server/application troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Git.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot for development, debugging, code reviews, and productivity.

Preferred Skills

  • Hands-on experience with on-premise infrastructure, particularly State Data Centres (SDCs), NIC, or government data centres.
  • Experience with virtualization platforms such as VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, or Nutanix.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code / Configuration Management tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or Puppet.
  • Basic knowledge of AWS and Docker.
  • Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms, particularly in on-premise environments.
  • Exposure to production monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Zabbix, or Nagios.
  • Knowledge of ReactJS will be an added advantage.
