GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage planning, construction, and maintenance of the greenhouse and associated areas. Responsible for developing the budget and long-range facilities plans based on present and future needs. Oversees the functioning of all greenhouse systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utilities. Oversees contractors involved in greenhouse projects and delivery of services.

• Greenhouse retrofit / projects

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems.
  • Prepare specifications for physical plant projects; estimate cost of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies.
  • Inspect facilities periodically to determine problems and necessary maintenance.
  • Develop and monitor the department budget; order equipment and supplies and monitor inventory; make requests for capital outlay expenditures as needed.
  • Manage, schedule, and oversee site and building projects performed by external contractors and vendors.
  • Oversee and respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs.
  • Oversee, diagnose, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Coordinate and oversee teams to cover various areas of responsibility.
  • Other related tasks as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • 10+ years of relevant job experience in a high-tech greenhouse setting, with at least one year in a greenhouse maintenance supervisory capacity.
  • Strong technical knowledge of greenhouse, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, Climate Computer, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and other manuals and documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent planning and leadership abilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
  • May involve physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
  • May involve stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching.
  • May involve climbing, balancing, and working at heights.
  • May involve working indoors and outdoors year-round.
  • May involve working in areas of high temperature and humidity (i.e. greenhouse).
  • May involve working in and around dust, fumes, and odors.
  • May involve working in noisy and crowded environments.
  • Observe, see, hear, and respond to direction with effective outcome.
  • May involve lifting 25–50 pounds when necessary.
  • Stand for short/high periods of time.
  • Sit for short/high periods of time.
  • Walk for short/high periods of time.
  • Handle the responsibilities and routine stress associated with this position.
