The posting

Cornell University Library seeks a collaborative and service-oriented Electronic Resources Librarian to join an innovative team responsible for connecting the Cornell community with scholarly resources.

As a member of the Acquisitions & E-Resources Licensing Services team, the librarian will work closely with experienced colleagues throughout the library to manage and enhance access to a wide range of electronic resources. The librarian participates in licensing and acquisitions activities, maintains vendor relationships, troubleshoots access issues, and collaborates to develop workflows and practices that support the effective stewardship of Cornell's collections. Further, the librarian contributes to library-wide initiatives, develops expertise in emerging trends and standards, and has the opportunity to engage with professional communities beyond Cornell.

As a member of Cornell University Library's Research, Teaching and Extension (RTE) faculty, the successful candidate will be supported in pursuing scholarship, service and professional engagement that advance both their own career development and the work of the library. We welcome candidates who are excited to learn, contribute, and grow in a dynamic academic environment.

This position is designed for an early-career librarian who is interested in developing expertise in electronic resources licensing, acquisitions, and access within a complex academic research library.

What We Offer:

  • A highly collegial and collaborative work environment
  • A commitment to mentorship and professional development
  • Engagement with innovative projects and partnerships across the library
  • Opportunities for scholarship, research, and professional service

Required Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a relevant discipline;
  • Ability to troubleshoot, research, work collaboratively and develop solutions to complex problems in uncertain projects;
  • Aptitude and interest in learning new technologies and standards;
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills;
  • Strong service orientation and interest in library users' values and needs;
  • Excellent communication and analytic skills, including the ability to work well in a team-based environment with a diverse group;
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to fostering learning, research, service and/or outreach in a diverse community.

Additionally, we would prefer:

  • Knowledge of, and experience with, education-focused AI tools
  • Familiarity with electronic resources management tools for libraries, such as link resolvers, discovery layers, authentication and authorization tools, library management systems, library standards, usage data and library metrics, etc.

Work Location:

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The incumbent will typically work on the Ithaca campus.

Relocation assistance may be provided.

Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

How to Apply: All candidates must apply online via the Cornell Careers site. For full consideration, please include the following with your application:

  • A cover letter explaining your interest in the position and how your qualifications, experience, and scholarly interests make you a strong candidate.
  • A Curriculum Vitae.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until a viable pool of applicants is identified; early submission is strongly encouraged. Although we prefer to receive your application as one, multi-page pdf document, we will accept multiple documents in other formats.

We anticipate filling this position at the academic rank of Assistant Librarian. The anticipated salary range is $67,500-$77,000 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Based on Cornell’s internal procedures and ranking structure, an Assistant Librarian is an early career/entry level role. Individuals at this rank typically have less than three years of experience in a relevant professional appointment.

Benefits: This is a benefits-eligible contract college appointment. Our comprehensive benefits package includes 22 vacation days, 13 paid holidays, health insurance, life insurance, university retirement contributions, childcare and adoption assistance, and child tuition reimbursement. Funding is available to support professional training and research.

Our inclusive community of scholars, students, and staff imparts an uncommon sense of larger purpose and contributes creative ideas to further the University's mission of teaching, discovery, and engagement. Cornell’s main campus in Ithaca, New York sits on 2,300 acres in the heart of the Finger Lakes region. Ithaca offers a wealth of arts, culture, and outdoor activities while maintaining an eclectic college-town feel. The city has been named one of the top 100 places to live, a top 10 recreation city, a best green place to live, and one of the "foodiest" towns in America. Cornell's global presence includes the Weill Cornell medical college's campuses on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and Doha, Qatar, as well as the Cornell Tech campus located on Roosevelt Island in the heart of New York City.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
