The posting

Apply your experience as a practising lawyer to a career in LegalTech! Use your legal expertise to influence how lawyers work and the future of AI legal products

  • Work at the intersection of law and product - fast-paced and varied role: legal testing AI agents, legal research and researching the latest developments in legal AI
  • Learn from experienced legal innovation specialists in a small, supportive team
  • Flexible, hybrid Sydney based role - 2-3 days per week in the office

About CORTO

We are CORTO, a cutting-edge software company dedicated to revolutionising the legal industry. Our mission is to empower legal practitioners with AI-driven solutions that streamline their workflow, boost productivity, and provide more efficient client service.

Our team of AI experts and engineers collaborate to develop intelligent software tailored to the unique needs of lawyers, paralegals, and legal assistants. Our innovative AI solutions automate routine tasks, simplify document management, and enhance decision-making, allowing legal professionals to focus on what they do best - providing expert legal counsel.

We’re rapidly scaling from 80 to 250+ employees, with a highly technical workforce where around 75% of the team are developers and engineers. Working alongside our Sydney-based team of passionate high achievers, you’ll join a fast-growing technology business where things rarely stay the same for long - and if you’re smart, caring, and ambitious, you’ll be in great company.

What you’ll do

You’ll join a small but high-impact legal team sitting at the heart of CORTO’s AI product work. The role focuses primarily on hands-on testing of legal AI agents and features, with additional responsibilities in legal research, prompt development and preparation of legal content. You’ll also bring the practitioner’s perspective that makes everything we build useful to lawyers. You’ll work alongside, and learn from, experienced legal innovation specialists. If you’re looking for a legal role where every week looks different and your work directly shapes products used by thousands of lawyers – this is it.

To make this happen, you will:

  • Carry out test plans for AI models, agents and features using realistic legal tasks and complete workflows. Assess factual and legal accuracy, completeness, practical usefulness and whether instructions have been followed, checking citations and document references against the underlying sources.
  • Record results and report issues with clear examples, expected and actual outcomes, and steps to reproduce them. Retest fixes and product updates to check that issues are resolved and existing tasks continue to work as expected.
  • Assist in creating realistic synthetic test matters, datasets and use cases, with clear expected outcomes, to support evaluation of AI models and features.
  • Conduct legal research for presentations, white papers and blog content, including the evolving AI regulatory landscape and how the legal profession uses AI. You’ll prepare clear research summaries for the team.
  • Assist in writing and refining prompts and skills for the prompt library across practice areas.
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing legal content (website copy, articles, white papers) and give feedback on accuracy and compliance.
  • Support the team in preparing AI training materials and demos for content teams globally.
  • Work closely with legal, product and engineering teams to investigate testing issues and help translate findings into product improvements.

What you’ll bring

  • A law degree (LLB or equivalent) and admission to practice in an Australian state or territory.
  • 1–3 years’ experience as a practising lawyer – family law or general practice strongly preferred; we’re not looking for specialists outside those areas.
  • Demonstrated experience with AI tools in legal work, ideally with professional experience in the legal AI space.
  • A methodical, detail-oriented approach to your work – you notice when something isn’t quite right and can explain why.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change – this team has gone through multiple product pivots and wears many hats; that kind of environment should excite rather than unsettle you.
  • Strong written communication skills – you’ll be writing test reports, research summaries and prompts/skills, and contributing to external-facing content.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities without dropping quality – some weeks are hours of legal testing; others are deep-dive research.

You are the type of person who

  • You get excited about what AI can (and can’t) do – and you want to be the person in the room who knows the answer.
  • You love getting to the bottom of things – whether that’s why an AI output is wrong or what a new regulatory development means.
  • You thrive when priorities shift – LegalTech is evolving rapidly and that kind of change energises rather than unsettles you.
  • You bring practical legal instincts to technical conversations – you don’t need to code, but you think like a product-minded lawyer.
  • You like to juggle – a lot – and you do it well.

CORTO is an inclusive, people-first company committed to breaking down institutional barriers that keep people from reaching their potential. If you meet some, but not all the requirements above, we encourage you to still submit your application.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
