The posting

Summary: As Director, Venue Safety, you'll own one integrated safety and risk program across Cosm's guest-facing venues (CA, TX, GA, MI, OH), corporate offices (CA, UT), and manufacturing and fabrication operations (PA). The role sits where environmental health and safety compliance meets business risk, and it needs someone fluent in both: you'll build and run the employee and guest safety programs and you'll show your work in measurable reductions to loss exposure, claims costs, and liability. Working alongside venue leadership, operations, and legal, you'll set consistent safety standards across all locations, lead post-incident investigation and corrective action, and keep the program scalable enough to travel to the next dome we open. The role reports into Cosm's Legal Department. Responsibilities:

Safety Program Development & Venue Partnership

Partner with venue leadership across all locations to develop and implement consistent safety policies and venue-specific procedures for dome operations, employee and guest safety, emergency response, and training, aligned with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and state-specific regulations Establish and maintain comprehensive environmental health and safety documentation, training records, incident logs, and medical surveillance data across all locations

Hazard Assessment & Operational Safety

Conduct hazard assessments, job safety analyses, and industrial hygiene evaluations across venues, fabrication, and installation activities, covering both occupational and guest safety exposure

Incident Investigation & Post-Event Analysis

In collaboration with on-site teams, conduct root cause investigations of all injuries, illnesses, near-misses, and guest incidents; coordinate corrective actions, regulatory compliance, and documentation requirements with venue leadership

Support venue leadership in conducting investigations and maintaining incident documentation pursuant to protocols established by the Legal Department; where litigation is reasonably anticipated, support investigations conducted at the direction of counsel Analyze incident trends and loss data to identify systemic hazards and develop preventive strategies that reduce recurrence risk

Emergency Management

Partner with venue leadership to develop and maintain emergency management, evacuation, and workplace violence prevention programs, including compliance with California workplace violence prevention plan requirements (Labor Code § 6401.9) and analogous state obligations

Regulatory Compliance & Claims Coordination

Lead and oversee compliance programs for OSHA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations across all locations; maintain required documentation and prepare for regulatory inspections Manage food service safety compliance (FDA, local health departments) and other venue-specific regulatory requirements Oversee compliance programs for ADA accessibility requirements, local fire marshal and occupancy regulations, and state public assembly safety codes applicable to Cosm's venue operations Analyze claims data, in partnership with Cosm's Risk & Insurance function, to inform prevention strategies and reduce workers' compensation and third-party liability costs

Training & Safety Culture

Design, support, and deliver role-specific safety training for dome operators, installation crews, food service staff, and front-of-house teams responsible for guest safety Promote a cross-venue safety culture through communication strategies, safety committees, and shared incident learnings

Multi-Site Field Oversight

Conduct regular audits and inspections across all locations; verify corrective action implementation

Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Risk Management, Environmental Health and Safety, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus. 10-14 years of professional experience in environmental health and safety, risk management, or venue and hospitality safety. Experience within entertainment, hospitality, live events, food and beverage, manufacturing, construction, or other high-volume public-facing environments is strongly preferred. Hands-on leader with a deep understanding of occupational and guest safety, emergency preparedness, incident response and regulatory compliance. Experience building and managing high-performing teams, including setting goals, providing feedback, managing performance, and fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, safety and preparedness. Experience developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs across multiple facilities, venues, or geographic locations. Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards, Cal/OSHA regulations, EPA regulations, ADA requirements, fire and life-safety requirements, workplace violence prevention requirements, and multi-state EHS requirements across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement comprehensive EHS programs across multiple facilities and geographies

Proven expertise in hazard assessment, job safety analysis, root cause investigation methodologies, and in developing preventive strategies that reduce injuries, claims, loss exposure, and recurrence risk. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with venue leadership, operations teams, legal counsel, insurance carriers, regulatory agencies, and other external partners. Ability to travel regularly (40-50%) and work independently across geographically dispersed venues, offices, manufacturing facilities, and project locations. Current OSHA 30-Hour Certification in General Industry or Construction, or an equivalent safety credential, strongly preferred. Workplace violence prevention certification or a comparable credential is a plus. Knowledge of electrical safety (NFPA 70E), medical surveillance programs, or industrial hygiene is a plus. Must have a customer service-oriented mindset and understand how to maintain a safe and secure environment while supporting a positive employee and guest experience. Must be action-oriented and comfortable working at both strategic and tactical levels. This individual must be willing to roll up their sleeves, respond directly to operational needs, and lead effectively during incidents and emergencies. Proactive and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a sense of urgency, professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, and high integrity. Must be a collaborative team player who is willing to identify concerns, elevate risks, and bring issues forward in an appropriate and timely manner. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop policies, investigation reports, executive-level presentations, training materials, and regulatory documentation. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, incident reporting systems, EHS management systems, and related reporting and analytics platforms.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
