The posting

About Courtyard

Courtyard is one of the fastest-growing collectibles startups. Courtyard turns physical collectibles into digital assets you can actually trade. From cards to sneakers to watches and more, we're making it faster, easier, and more exciting than ever to discover, collect, and trade the items you love.

We're not just another marketplace, we are the go-to exchange for digitized goods. With thrilling pack rips, instant liquidity, and trusted vaulting, Courtyard delivers the ultimate collecting experience. Whether you're buying, selling, trading, or curating your dream collection, we've built a platform that's trusted, simple, and built to scale.

And we're just getting started...

The role

You are the owner of the Marketplace. Not the coordinator of it, not the scribe for it, the owner. Pack ripping is how most people find Courtyard today. The Marketplace is how they stay, trade, and build a collection that means something to them. We are making the Marketplace a first-class citizen alongside packs, and you will be the person who drives what it becomes over the next several years. Make the case for it, get the buy in, and execute on it with a team that can move as fast as you can.

This is a two-sided marketplace role. You care as much about the seller who wants to list, price, and move inventory as you do about the buyer who wants to find the exact card, sneaker, or watch they have been hunting for. You understand liquidity, pricing, trust, and discovery, and you know which lever to pull when one side of the market is lagging the other.

You will report to the Director of Product Management and work shoulder to shoulder with engineering, design, data, operations, and marketing leadership every day.

What you'll own

  • The Marketplace roadmap. A real, sequenced, defensible plan for how buying, selling, and trading work on Courtyard. You write it, you defend it, you keep it current as the business moves.
  • Discovery and search. How users find items, browse categories, and get from "I'm curious" to "I bought it." Search, filters, collections, personalization, and the surfaces that make the Marketplace feel alive.
  • Buy side. Listings, offers, checkout, buy-it-again, and the trust signals (pricing, condition, provenance) that make someone comfortable spending real money on an item they can't hold yet.
  • Sell side. Listing flows, pricing tools, offers management, seller analytics, and the experience that turns a collector into a repeat seller. Including how items that come out of packs make their way onto the Marketplace.
  • Marketplace economics. Take rate, fees, promotions, and how the Marketplace contributes to GMV and margin without sacrificing the user experience. You will work closely with finance and data on this.
  • New marketplace formats. Auctions, bounties, trades, and whatever comes next. You will scope them, test them, and decide which ones earn a permanent spot.

What success looks like

First 30 days. You're a sponge. You have absorbed as much as you can, you have mapped the Marketplace as it actually exists (buyer and seller side), you have met everyone who touches it, and you have an opinion about the two or three things that are quietly the highest impact opportunities to focus on.

By 60 days. You're a do-er. You have shipped something. Small is fine. We want to see you take a thing from 0-to-1. You have also drafted the first version of the Marketplace roadmap and gotten it torn apart by engineering, design, and marketing.

By 90 days. Look at me... You're the captain now. The Marketplace roadmap is a living, breathing artifact that the team actually uses. Engineering, marketing, and leadership trust your judgment. You are running at least one workstream end-to-end with no supervision. You're the true owner of the Marketplace product.

What we're looking for

We care more about what you can do than how many years you have been doing it. That said, this is a senior seat and you should be able to operate without a net.

  • Marketplace experience. You have built or grown a two-sided marketplace, or a product that lives or dies on liquidity. You understand supply and demand dynamics, pricing, and trust, and you have scars from getting one of them wrong.
  • Product taste and judgment. You can look at two valid options, intuitively know which one is right for the user and the business, and then find a way to validate it to leadership. You know what good feels like.
  • Data-driven, experiment-minded. You are comfortable with A/B testing, product analytics, and funnel work. You define success before you ship, and you measure what happened after.
  • AI-native workflow. You use AI throughout your own workflow and have opinions about what it is good for. You can think about what AI means for the Marketplace: pricing, search, listing creation, personalization, and how our processes need to change so that AI-accelerated engineering does not outrun our ability to define what we are building.
  • Strong opinions, held well. We want conviction. We want you to push back when necessary, on leadership, on engineering, and on the roadmap. We also want you to be able to openly change your mind in public when someone shows you something better.
  • A bias to action inside the chaos. As a fast-moving startup, our strategy evolves constantly. Priorities shift. Context is scattered across Slack, Linear, and people's heads. If you can take an ambiguous concept and give your team clarity to feel like they can deliver, you've succeeded.
  • Zoom out as well as in. You can write the spec and you can also answer "where does the Marketplace need to be in six months and why." You will own the product strategy, but also shouldn't be afraid to get your hands dirty and define the details.
  • Range. You've got to look good in hats because you will be wearing multiple. You will be running several things at once, and learning a ton along the way.

Bonus points

  • Experience at an eCommerce, fintech, or gaming company that went from scrappy to structured without losing the scrappy part.
  • You have been a “buyer” or “seller” somewhere. eBay, StockX, Whatnot, Etsy, Airbnb, a card show table. You know the seller side from the inside.
  • You collect things. You will understand our users faster if you do.
  • You're passionate about something. We don't care what it is, but you’re obsessed something so much that you have no shame in admitting it.

How we work

Small team, big impact, high velocity. We live in a new world of product management and get to build and improve our processes as we go rather than importing it from somewhere else. We view that as a feature, not a bug... and we hope you do too.

In our processes, everyone, but especially this role gets to have enormous latitude and responsibility. We want you to challenge the status quo and critically think about what we're building, but also be decisive, move fast, and build the best product for our users.

Logistics

Location. NYC-based, hybrid-expectation with plenty of remote-flexibility. As a product leader, we want you in the room with the team regularly, but we are flexible on remote days as often as you need them.

Compensation. We pay competitively plus meaningful equity in one of the fastest growing start-ups in the space.

Level. We are looking for someone who operates at a senior+ level and we are not precious about years of experience. If you can do the job, the title follows.

To standout. Go buy or sell something on Courtyard and have some product feedback ready (extra bonus points if it's about the Marketplace).

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
