The posting

Data centres play a vital role in society, and the decisions made today will shape the digital and sustainable infrastructure of tomorrow. At COWI, we are strengthening our capabilities to support clients in delivering the next generation of digital infrastructure. We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Lead with a background from data centre projects to help strengthen and expand our growing data centre business across Scandinavia.

Lead the mechanical design of next-generation data centres

Data centres are a strategic growth area at COWI, and we are continuing to strengthen our multidisciplinary capabilities across Scandinavia. By combining expertise in engineering, architecture, sustainability and project delivery, we support clients throughout the development of complex digital infrastructure projects and help shape the next generation of reliable and energy-efficient facilities. Your work location wil be at one of COWI'S offices in either Lyngby, Aarhus or Odense based on your preference.

In this role, you will take a leading position within the mechanical discipline, contributing your expertise to complex projects from early planning through detailed design and implementation.

As Mechanical Lead, you will play a key role in developing cooling and HVAC solutions for mission-critical facilities, balancing performance, reliability and sustainability requirements. Working closely with colleagues across engineering disciplines, architects and clients, you will help ensure technically robust and coordinated solutions throughout the project lifecycle. We expect that you have work experience from hyperscale data centre projects.

You will join an established engineering environment where technical quality, collaboration and knowledge sharing are highly valued. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of our data centre expertise and project delivery capabilities across Scandinavia.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Lead mechanical design and advisory services for data centre facilities.
  • Act as the discipline lead, ensuring technical quality and coordination throughout projects.
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for hyperscale and enterprise data centers.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Support projects through concept development, detailed design, tendering and construction phases.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated and efficient technical solutions.

Your skills. Our team. Together we design the future.

The first step to success in this role is that you are eager to collaborate with the people around you, whether they are colleagues, partners or customers. Developing ties with others is something you do by acting respectfully and delivering on your promises. And you never get set in your ways but keep exploring new insights and ways to improve.

On top of that, you will have:

  • A relevant educational background in engineering.
  • Proven experience delivering data centre projects, ideally within hyperscale, colocation or enterprise environments.
  • Experience leading technical design work within multidisciplinary project environments.
  • Professional proficiency in English. Additional role-specific qualifications may include:
  • Experience working with large-scale infrastructure or industrial facilities.

Some projects may be subject to specific security requirements, and the ability to obtain relevant security clearance may be required.

Before you apply

All you need to include in your application is your CV – no photo or application letter. At an interview, you can tell us everything we need to know about why you’re interested in joining COWI. As for the photo, we prefer to form our first impression in person rather than from a picture. We review applications and conduct interviews on an ongoing basis, so the role may close as soon as we find the right match.

Diversity is fundamental to COWI, inclusion is key

We are committed to creating a respectful and fair work environment where all employees have a sense of belonging and equitable opportunities to thrive and grow. We ensure that our leaders are role models for inclusive leadership by cultivating a culture where diverse perspectives and thoughts are seen as strengths. And we take diversity and inclusion into account in all relevant decisions and processes and when setting teams and fora. We do it because it is part of our values and because it is simply the right thing to do.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
