About this role

Software engineer at Finpilot, the AI-native operating system for institutional capital. You'll build what our clients run their investment offices on: LLM systems over hundreds of thousands of fund documents, AI agents that finish real analyst work end to end, and the product surface that ties it together. The stack is Python, React/TypeScript, AWS, Postgres, and MongoDB. You own problems whole, from scoping through deployment to the client relationship; there's no PM, EM, or QA between you and the outcome. We build AI-first, meaning AI writes most of our code while engineers design the systems, direct the agents, and answer for everything that ships. Full-time, in person in Seattle.

Salary

$130K–$170K base, set by experience, plus 0.6–1% equity at pre-Series A.

The package is deliberately equity-weighted, and we'll be straight about the trade: if you're optimizing for cash compensation, a large company will beat this offer, and you should take theirs. The equity is founding-engineer scale at a company with ~$1M ARR, zero customer churn, and a raise ahead of it; if you understand early-stage risk/reward, that's the part of the package to price.

  • Relocation assistance available
  • Visa sponsorship available

Requirements

Seniority

Required

  • Preference for at least 2 years, but not a hard requirement

Must Have

Has demonstrated programming experience through internships, projects, or full-time work.

  • Work or intern experience that required passing a very selective non-FAANG interview process. Specific companies are examples of the caliber, not an exhaustive list.

Required

  • Signs of excellence in an ultra-competitive field tangential to software engineering, with demonstrated software engineer experience on top.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working at an early-stage startup (<50 people, the smaller the better), especially if the business had a good exit.

Education

Required

  • CS degree from a top university. Specific schools are examples of the caliber, not an exhaustive list.
  • Math or Physics degree from a top university, if they also have software engineer experience.

Nice to Have

  • 4.0 undergraduate GPA, or near enough, at an ordinary university.

Hard Skills

Required

  • Backend development experience; frontend-only experience is not sufficient.

Nice to Have

Experience with:

  • Python
  • React
  • TypeScript
  • AWS
  • PostgreSQL
  • MongoDB
  • Experience building AI/LLM-powered applications.

Soft Skills

Required

  • Expresses genuine passion for working at a ~10-person startup and understands what that commitment means.
  • Communicates clearly with clients: can keep track of a complex situation and explain exactly what's needed and what's happening.

Miscellaneous

Must Have

  • Willing to work in-office five days a week in Seattle; normal working hours are fine, but when it's crunch time, late nights and weekend work are required.

Required

  • Has any super exceptional achievements, e.g. International Olympiad medals.

Nice to Have

  • Anything that demonstrates this is not their first time working hard, e.g. military service or a job notorious for long hours and late nights.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
