About the Role

In the role of Staff Software Engineer, Shop (eCommerce), you will report to the Fan Experiences Engineering Organization.

We are considering applicants for the location of Hyderabad, India.

Crunchyroll is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to join our India Engineering Center and help build the next generation of our member-focused eCommerce platform.

The eCommerce platform is designed to create an exclusive experience for Crunchyroll members, including access to unique products and limited drops. An integral part of the member experience, the platform must be designed to deliver high-quality features, operate reliably at scale, and delight our fans.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the Shop team, helping define the architecture, engineering strategy, and execution approach for critical eCommerce capabilities. You will remain hands-on while operating with a broad perspective: solving complex technical problems, shaping durable platform investments, raising engineering standards, and enabling other engineers to deliver with confidence.

You will work closely with Engineering Managers, Product, Program Management, and other Engineering verticals to align on requirements, priorities, technical trade-offs, and dependencies. You will help turn ambiguous problems into clear technical direction and scalable solutions, while ensuring that features are delivered with strong operational ownership.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role for someone who can connect customer and business outcomes to pragmatic technical decisions, influence across team and organizational boundaries, and establish patterns that improve the quality, reliability, and velocity of the Shop platform.

About You

We get excited about candidates, like you, because...

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience building and operating cloud-native software, distributed systems, or consumer-facing platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience providing staff-level technical leadership across multiple engineers, teams, or services.
  • Experience defining and evolving technical strategy and architecture for platforms with meaningful scale, reliability, security, and customer impact.
  • Experience with SaaS-based eCommerce platforms, with Salesforce Commerce Cloud preferred.
  • Strong experience with backend services, APIs, microservices, databases, distributed systems, and modern cloud infrastructure.
  • Hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud and the practices required to build scalable, reliable, and secure systems, particularly infrastructure related to consumer-facing services.
  • Experience designing systems for transactional correctness, data integrity, observability, and operational resilience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, evaluate trade-offs, and define pragmatic technical solutions.
  • A track record of mentoring engineers, influencing technical decisions, and improving engineering practices across team boundaries.
  • You excel in an agile and collaborative environment, where your insights and expertise will help create technical solutions loved by our fans.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

About the Team

The eCommerce team is building and operating a member-focused commerce platform that creates new ways for Crunchyroll fans to engage with the brand. The platform supports differentiated shopping experiences, unique products, and exclusive drops while connecting to broader Crunchyroll capabilities such as membership, identity, payments, entitlements, and customer operations.

This role is an opportunity to shape both the platform and the organization behind it: setting a durable technical direction, developing people, raising the bar for engineering excellence, and helping establish eCommerce as a trusted part of the Crunchyroll member experience.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
