If the answer is “Yes”, this is the job for you!  Catholic Social Services is currently seeking a full-time 40 hours per week, Senior Financial Analyst in EDMONTON to join our Finance department. Providing excellent client-centered care, you are confident, thoughtful, and motivated to achieve success when supporting others in your community! Job Summary: Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the finance function in one or more of our service areas. The role includes assisting Management with negotiating funding agreements; cost allocations among programs; preparing and monitoring of budgets; monitoring, testing, and strengthening of internal controls; preparing monthly financial statements; contractual financial reporting; liaising with internal and external auditors; analyzing current systems/processes and recommending improvements; and mentoring service area staff on financial matters.  Collaboration

Financial

Prepares internal/external financial reporting on the status of contracts   Coordinates the preparation and maintaining of disbursements and financial reporting for funding agreements  Interprets contract provisions and responds to inquiries regarding contractual obligations  Analyzes, problem solves, and recommends solutions to contract related issues  Assists/participates in contract negotiations with government and other funders  Provides support in the development of Agency business proposals  Assists in development of monthly forecasts, annual budgets, and strategic plans  Manages receipt and initiation of stakeholder concerns by resolving/diffusing issues in a timely manner  Develops effective strategies and processes to ensure appropriate allocation of funding to multiple programs  Participates in financial planning activities and annual audits  Liaises with multiple levels of internal/external stakeholders  Maintains a wide variety of accounting information, files, and records in written and electronic formats for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance  Identifies gaps in processes, practices, and guidelines and develops/recommends improvements and best practices  Identifies risks and issues, suggesting alternatives that lead to the best solution  Contributes to implementation of policies, procedures, and internal controls; ensuring policies and procedures are documented and communicated appropriately  

General

Ensures appropriate and confidential handling and storage of client/Agency information and documentation in accordance to Agency policies, procedures, and standards  Initiates ongoing process improvements within; assists with the implementation of approved proposals, processes, procedures, and reports as assigned  Assists in training and supporting new employees and colleagues with AP and AR procedures and processes  Reports incidents to manager or designate in a timely manner  Follows health and safety protocols while adhering to Agency policies and procedures  Maintains a pleasant and safe work environment, ensuring high levels of cleanliness, comfort, and safety  Completes and submits regular and ad hoc reports and documentation as per standard procedures on or before assigned due dates  Attends and actively participates in scheduled meetings. Supports team initiatives and helps to identify problems and suggest solutions  Performs other related duties as required 

What This Job Requires:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Business Administration or equivalent from a recognized educational institution   Having a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset Additional relevant certifications or designations considered an asset   Minimum of five (5) related accounting and finance experience, preferably in a not-for profit environment   Minimum of five (5) years’ experience preparing working papers for external audits  Prior financial analysis, analysis techniques, budgeting, and some strategic planning experience is an asset  Prior leadership/supervisory experience is preferred  Experience working within an ERP financial system is preferred  Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered   A reliable Vehicle, Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Registration and Third Party Liability Insurance (amount of two million) Driver's Abstract with less than six (6) demerit points current within one (1) year Police Information Check current within six (6) months

Police Information Check within the last 6 months and an Drivers Abstract within the last 6 months are conditions of employment and the financial responsibility of the candidate. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Advanced knowledge and proficiency in using applicable Microsoft (MS) suite programs, especially Excel and Word  Proficient in use of other Agency-assigned computer applications, systems, and databases  Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accounting principles, practices, and applications  Forward thinking, analytical, with strong planning and technical accounting abilities  Strong customer-relation skills, client-service attitude, and commitment to providing exceptional service and quality results with empathy and compassion  Strong English-language communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate using active listening, to understand, comprehend, and comply with all job requirements  Awareness of and sensitivity towards individuals with diverse needs  Ability and willingness to work in and contribute to a diverse and inclusive team environment that may include a wide range of beliefs, lifestyles, languages, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds  Comfortable working in a Catholic environment, being respectful of relevant Catholic teachings and practices  Strong interpersonal and conflict management skills to facilitate working effectively with wide range and number of people, including employees and external stakeholders  Strong negotiation, persuasion, and listening skills to facilitate successful resolution of funder, vendor, and Agency requests and concerns  Knowledge of and effective collaboration with diverse groups of people including internal and external stakeholders, funders, and vendors  Collaborative skills: willingness to work as a team member, consulting and sharing information with colleagues and stakeholders, and contributing to the development and evaluation of services provided  Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team as well as independently with minimal supervision  Attentiveness to details and ability to process high volumes of transactions while maintaining a culture of strong internal control and a high standard of client service levels within a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions  Applies systematic, logical reasoning, problem solving, critical thinking, and sound judgment to address problems or situations to arrive at an appropriate solution or outcome while recognizing the sensitive nature of issues  High level of professionalism, confidentiality and diplomacy; with ability to manage sensitive and confidential information and comply with all regulatory requirements and Agency Privacy and Confidentiality policies and procedures  Up-to-date knowledge of Agency policies, procedures, and standards; as well as relevant legislation, regulations, practice standards and practice guidelines   Resourcefulness and flexibility to adapt to changing needs of vendors, funders, circumstances, and Agency  Advanced time management, planning, and organizing skills to achieve goals and meet deadlines  Strong ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and take initiative  Ability and willingness to work outside of regular business hours as required to meet Agency needs. Advance notice will be provided when possible  Ability and willingness to frequently travel, as required, to different offices, programs, and other sites to work, attend and/or conduct meetings, presentations, and/or training

Working Conditions

Works in a standard office environment with standard office equipment, or from home office with standard office equipment and reliable internet connection   Regular, and frequently prolonged, use of computer  Primarily works regular business hours; however incumbent may be required to occasionally work outside of regular hours to meet Agency needs. Advance notice will be provided when possible  Regular interactions with external contacts including vendors, funders, and key stakeholders  Regular interactions with internal employees   Frequent (i.e. between 25% and 75% of time on the job), travel within Edmonton and Central Alberta is required  Work remotely
