Job Description

Position Summary:

The Environmental Services Lead provides day-to-day work leadership and custodial support for the VHS Hospitals, including assigning work, coordinating schedules, training employees, and monitoring the quality and completion of custodial services. The position performs and oversees cleaning, disinfection, and sanitation activities to support a safe and functional environment for patients, clients, students, and employees. The role also responds to changing hospital needs, staffing issues, and biosecurity concerns to ensure essential custodial services are maintained.

For full consideration, please apply by Monday, November 9, 2026, 11:59 PM (MT). This position will remain open until filled.

At the CSU Veterinary Health System, animals and the people who care for them are at the heart of everything we do. Every decision we make reflects our commitment to those who trust us with their animals’ health. That focus inspires us to deliver expert veterinary services, support veterinary education and training, and advance groundbreaking research. We show up every day with passion, eagerness to collaborate, and a drive to redefine what’s possible. Our deep partnership with the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences amplifies our impact, enabling us to boldly innovate and share knowledge widely.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Lead and coordinate the daily work of Hospital Environmental Services employees by assigning duties, establishing work priorities, coordinating weekday, night and weekend coverage, and adjusting assignments in response to employee absences, hospital emergencies, treatment schedules, and changing operational needs.
  • Train and provide ongoing work direction to environmental services employees on cleaning and disinfection procedures, biosecurity requirements, equipment use, departmental processes, work orders, and specialized custodial activities. Provide guidance to employees during assigned shifts and communicate temporary changes in procedures or work expectations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality and completion of custodial work by conducting routine quality assurance checks throughout assigned hospital areas, identifying deficiencies, directing corrective action, and ensuring work is completed according to established cleaning, disinfection, and Biosecurity SOP requirements.
  • Perform specialized cleaning, disinfection, and contamination-control activities throughout the VHS Hospitals, including removal of biological materials, cleaning and disinfecting clinical and public areas, performing special disinfection procedures, and responding to unusual or extensive contamination. Serve as operational backup for custodial areas when additional coverage is needed.
  • Coordinate environmental services staffing, leave, and workflow needs by reviewing employee leave requests, arranging coverage, maintaining work schedules, responding to staff questions, and escalating significant staffing, performance, facility, or operational concerns to the Environmental Services Supervisor as appropriate.
  • Maintain supplies and support facility readiness by monitoring supply levels, prioritizing restocking based on hospital usage and operational needs, and initiating work orders when facility conditions require repair or immediate attention.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned based on the operational needs of the VHS Environmental Services team.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment criminal background check (required for all new hires).
  • Essential services designation: required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety, and welfare.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Supervision:

This position serves as a lead worker for approximately 5.0 FTE environmental services employees but does not have formal supervisory authority. The position provides day-to-day work direction by assigning and prioritizing duties, coordinating schedules and coverage, training employees, monitoring work quality, and providing guidance on procedures and hospital requirements. The Environmental Services Lead may address routine work-related concerns and provide feedback to employees but refers significant performance, conduct, or personnel matters to the Environmental Services Supervisor. Formal supervisory responsibilities, including performance evaluations, corrective or disciplinary action, hiring decisions, and other personnel actions, remain with the Environmental Services Supervisor.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
