Job description

The Asset Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of a portfolio of operational renewable energy assets in Italy, primarily onshore wind with additional exposure to solar PV and BESS. The role combines technical and commercial asset management, including HSE, O&M contractor oversight, contract administration, regulatory compliance, budgeting, reporting and value optimisation.

The ideal candidate will have proven hands-on experience in renewable energy asset management, with strong knowledge of operating and maintaining wind farms in Italy; solar PV or BESS experience is an advantage. They should be confident managing O&M contractors and contracts, navigating the Italian power-market and regulatory framework, and delivering safe operations, asset performance and approved budget and EBITDA targets.

The position will be based from our Milan office on a hybrid basis.

Salary range: €65,000+ (depending on experience)

  • A relevant engineering, technical or scientific degree, or equivalent qualification, with proven experience in renewable energy asset management, operations or O&M.
  • Hands-on experience administering and negotiating O&M agreements and technical contracts, covering service levels, availability guarantees, liquidated damages, warranties, claims and contractor performance; ability to coordinate and challenge contractors, engineering consultancies and specialist suppliers without extensive people-management experience, and translate technical findings into contractual, financial and risk implications using sound commercial judgement.
  • Strong technical knowledge of onshore wind O&M, including turbines, balance of plant, substations, grid interfaces, SCADA, monitoring and reporting systems, availability, performance analysis and common failure modes; solar PV or BESS experience is an advantage.
  • Practical knowledge of maintenance strategy, lifecycle cost, capital investment, outage planning, ageing assets, performance monitoring and value optimisation; ability to diagnose operational and technical issues, coordinate root-cause analysis and translate findings into practical engineering and commercial actions.
  • Strong commitment to HSE and practical knowledge of Italian health and safety legislation and standards; a relevant certification is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of the Italian electricity sector and renewable-asset regulatory and operational interfaces, including GSE, Terna and ARERA requirements, grid-code compliance, metering, dispatching, energy markets and incentive schemes.
  • Ability to forecast operating costs, prepare and manage budgets, review invoices and analyse performance against plan; working knowledge of business and operational risk assessment tools, processes and mitigation planning.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles and quality management systems, with sound project-management skills to deliver initiatives to agreed cost, quality and schedule.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint skills and advanced Excel skills; ability to use AI-enabled tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot for analysis, reporting and workflow support by defining tasks, selecting reliable data, writing clear prompts, validating outputs against source evidence and documenting assumptions, while protecting confidentiality and retaining human oversight.
  • Strong planning, prioritisation and organisational skills to manage multiple assets and workstreams, work under pressure and deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in Italian and English and ability to build effective relationships with technical, commercial and institutional stakeholders.
  • Work with the Italy HSE manager to promote a positive safety culture and ensure safe operations across all assets in the country, in accordance with local legislation and Cubico’s HSE policies.
  • Monitor asset performance using operational and SCADA data; investigate underperformance and losses; and implement corrective actions, risk mitigations and value-creation initiatives.
  • Manage wind O&M contractors, other technical service providers and supplier contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, service levels, warranties, HSE requirements and agreed performance targets to maximise long-term value to Cubico.
  • Oversee planned and corrective maintenance activities on wind assets, challenge technical proposals and verify that works are completed safely, efficiently and in line with applicable standards and industry best practice.
  • Lead the resolution of technical issues, including root-cause analysis, remediation plans, warranty matters, insurance claims and commercial settlements where appropriate.
  • Prepare clear portfolio and asset-level reports covering HSE, availability, production, losses, technical and commercial performance, risks, actions and budget variances.
  • Prepare, review and implement asset-specific O&M plans, lifecycle strategies and plant improvement plans to optimise availability, production, cost and long-term value, including associated investment proposals.
  • Build effective relationships with landowners, public authorities, grid operators, lenders, insurers, suppliers and other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with permits, licences, grid requirements, incentive schemes and applicable Italian technical and regulatory obligations.
  • Oversee electricity-market, metering, dispatching and incentive arrangements, coordinating as required with GSE, Terna, ARERA, traders, aggregators and other relevant counterparties.
  • Work with the Italy Finance team to prepare annual operating plans, budgets and forecasts, and analyse technical and financial performance against approved targets.
  • Support the development and implementation of the asset management strategy for the Italian renewable energy portfolio, working with internal functions to optimise HSE, technical, commercial and financial performance.
  • Provide input to business development, origination and asset construction activities and proactively share knowledge and experience with the wider business.
  • Apply best practices and continuously improve local systems and processes in line with Cubico’s global policies and standards.
  • Instigate robust business risk assessment processes and procedures in line with Cubico’s policies.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
