Job Description

Being part of Cummins means working alongside today’s most innovative thinkers to solve the world’s toughest problems. We are proud to offer learning and development opportunities designed to promote individual performance and spark purpose and trust within our teams. We look to hire the best and then help you to become even better.

Join our Scoresby team as a Quality Inspector, supporting the inspection and quality verification of engines undergoing the upfit process before they are dispatched to customers across the network. You’ll play an important role in ensuring engines meet Cummins’ quality standards, customer requirements and applicable specifications before release.

Working closely with the Upfit and Quality teams, you’ll help identify potential issues, verify completed work and ensure products are fit for purpose. We’re looking for someone interested in a long-term opportunity, with plenty of training, resources and ongoing support to help you develop your technical skills and grow with the team.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Perform product and process inspections for Upfit activities, ensuring completed work meets applicable engineering specifications, drawings, quality requirements and defined acceptance criteria.
  • Complete in-process and final inspections, identifying defects or deviations before product release.
  • Identify and appropriately segregate and document nonconforming product, using the required quality systems and supporting containment and corrective actions.
  • Support investigation of product and process quality issues, including root-cause investigation, containment, corrective action and follow-up.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at preventing repeat defects and improving Upfit product/process quality.
  • Maintain inspection and quality records and provide clear reporting of defects, non-conformances, recurring issues and corrective-action progress.
  • Work closely with Upfit, Operations, Engineering and Quality teams to resolve day-to-day quality concerns and prevent defective product from progressing to the customer.
  • Serve as an on-floor quality resource for Upfit, helping operators understand inspection requirements, acceptance criteria and correct quality practices.

Responsibilities

To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • A University or Associate Degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Mechanical Technology or a related discipline is preferred but not required
  • Experience in Automotive manufacturing quality or a similar technical environment is advantageous
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, engineering drawings and part information
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisation and record-keeping skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams

Qualifications

  • Perform product and process inspections for Upfit activities, ensuring completed work meets applicable engineering specifications, drawings, quality requirements and defined acceptance criteria.
  • Complete in-process and final inspections, identifying defects or deviations before product release.
  • Manage CES-required quality control activities, including required inspections, quality checks, documentation and follow-up of identified issues.
  • Identify and appropriately segregate and document nonconforming product, using the required quality systems and supporting containment and corrective actions.
  • Support Upfit teams with the development, review and improvement of Work Instructions (WIs) to ensure quality requirements and inspection/control points are clear and practical.
  • Verify that Upfit processes are being performed in accordance with approved Work Instructions, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Support investigation of product and process quality issues, including root-cause investigation, containment, corrective action and follow-up.
  • Support continuous improvement activities aimed at preventing repeat defects and improving Upfit product/process quality.
  • Maintain inspection and quality records and provide clear reporting of defects, non-conformances, recurring issues and corrective-action progress.
  • Act as backup support for the Customer Quality Analyst during absence, maintaining continuity of customer-quality activities and supporting follow-up of customer-related quality issues.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
