Position Summary

The DC HSE Manager is responsible for leading and advancing all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs and initiatives within the Distribution Center to foster a best-in-class safety-first culture. This role serves as the site subject matter expert (SME) for safety, environmental compliance, risk management, and regulatory requirements while partnering closely with leadership to proactively prevent workplace injuries, minimize risk, and drive continuous improvement.

The DC HSE Manager will provide strategic leadership and hands-on support to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, promote behavioral safety initiatives, lead incident investigations, and implement preventive measures that protect colleagues and business operations. This role requires a proactive leader who can influence all levels of the organization, champion safety excellence, and develop sustainable programs that improve operational performance and employee well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Leadership & Culture Development

  • Champion a safety-first culture throughout the Distribution Center by promoting accountability, engagement, and safe work practices.
  • Partner with the Distribution Center Director and site leadership team to integrate safety into all operational and business decisions.
  • Lead the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of HSE programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives.
  • Act as a visible safety leader, modeling safe behaviors and reinforcing safety expectations across all levels of the organization.
  • Facilitate and support Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) programs to identify and address unsafe behaviors proactively.
  • Develop and implement strategies that improve leading safety indicators and drive injury prevention efforts.
  • Conduct regular safety communications, awareness campaigns, and employee engagement activities.

Compliance & Regulatory Management

  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of OSHA, environmental, transportation, and workplace safety requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, investigations, and compliance reviews.
  • Collaborate with Corporate HSE and Legal teams to address compliance concerns and regulatory matters.
  • Ensure all required permits, records, documentation, and reporting requirements are maintained accurately and timely.
  • Perform compliance assessments and recommend corrective actions to address identified gaps.

Hazard Identification & Risk Reduction

  • Conduct regular safety inspections, facility audits, workplace assessments, and hazard recognition evaluations.
  • Identify risks and implement corrective and preventive actions to eliminate or mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Perform gap analyses to assess program effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Participate in and lead Gemba walks to promote continuous improvement and operational safety.
  • Develop and monitor action plans to address identified safety concerns and compliance deficiencies.
  • Drive risk management initiatives that support a proactive safety environment.

Incident Management & Investigation

  • Lead all workplace injury, incident, near-miss, and property damage investigations.
  • Ensure thorough root cause analyses are completed and appropriate corrective actions are implemented.
  • Educate leadership teams on incident investigation processes and effective corrective action development.
  • Apply hierarchy of controls principles to reduce operational risks and prevent recurrence.
  • Track, trend, and analyze incident data to identify emerging risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare investigation reports and communicate findings to leadership and key stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Operational Excellence

  • Serve as the HSE Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Chair and facilitate Safety Task Force meetings and related safety committees.
  • Utilize continuous improvement methodologies to drive measurable safety performance improvements.
  • Analyze safety metrics, KPIs, audit findings, and trend data to identify performance opportunities.
  • Develop and execute project plans that improve safety processes, programs, and compliance outcomes.
  • Lead safety-focused change management initiatives across the facility.

Training & Employee Development

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and management.
  • Manage Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) training, certification, and recertification programs.
  • Ensure employees receive required compliance, regulatory, and operational safety training.
  • Support emergency response preparedness through drills, exercises, and training activities.
  • Promote workplace ergonomics and injury prevention programs.
  • Evaluate and improve pre-shift stretching and warm-up programs to reduce injury risk.

Safety Performance & Reporting

  • Review, monitor, and report on key HSE performance indicators and safety metrics.
  • Maintain accurate records related to incidents, training, inspections, audits, and regulatory activities.
  • Present safety performance updates and recommendations to site leadership.
  • Develop action plans to address performance trends and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure timely submission of required safety reports and regulatory documentation.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner with Operations, Human Resources, Maintenance, Transportation, and Corporate teams to support safety objectives.
  • Collaborate with business partners to address compliance requirements and operational safety needs.
  • Support organizational initiatives that enhance employee engagement, operational excellence, and workplace safety.
  • Foster strong working relationships promote accountability and shared ownership of safety outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Business, or related field; and or equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of safety, health, environmental, or related experience in a distribution, warehouse, manufacturing, logistics, or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
  • Experience leading incident investigations and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and manage safety programs and compliance initiatives.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence leaders and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with safety reporting, auditing, and data analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
  • ACLS, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • DOT compliance and driver safety experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification (Yellow Belt or higher).
  • 8 to 10 years of relevant safety leadership experience.
  • Experience within large-scale distribution center, warehouse, or supply chain operations.
  • Demonstrated success driving safety culture transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$60,300.00 - $132,600.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
