About DataOne

DataOne designs, develops, and operates sustainable AI Factories, bringing together energy, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence at industrial scale. With operations in the U.S. and internationally, we deliver large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure with a focus on innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. As we continue to grow, we're looking for people who want to bring their experience, ideas, and perspective to meaningful projects and help shape what comes next at DataOne.

About the Job

DataOne is hiring a Resident Engineer – Mechanical to provide on-site engineering oversight and construction quality monitoring for mechanical systems at our Vineland data center. This position plays an important role in reviewing mechanical installations, identifying construction deficiencies, and verifying that work meets approved engineering designs, project specifications, and applicable codes.

In this role, you'll conduct daily site inspections, review technical submittals, and work closely with construction contractors, design engineers, and commissioning teams to resolve technical issues. You'll also support mechanical system testing, commissioning, and project handover to help deliver safe, reliable infrastructure for our mission-critical operations.

Requirements

What You'll Do

  • Conduct daily site inspections to monitor mechanical construction quality, identify deficiencies, and verify installations against approved designs and project requirements.
  • Inspect HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, piping, plumbing, fire protection systems, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Review mechanical submittals, shop drawings, equipment specifications, engineering drawings, and BIM coordination models to identify technical discrepancies and installation conflicts.
  • Serve as the primary on-site mechanical engineering contact, coordinating technical questions, RFIs, and construction issues with contractors and off-site design engineers.
  • Identify installation deficiencies, design discrepancies, and incomplete work, and track corrective actions through resolution.
  • Witness mechanical system testing and commissioning activities, including pressure testing, flushing, equipment startup, testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB), and functional performance testing.
  • Support integrated systems testing, system acceptance, and project handover, including review of as-built drawings, equipment documentation, and operations and maintenance manuals.
  • Maintain accurate inspection reports, punch lists, non-conformance reports, technical records, and construction quality documentation.
  • Collaborate with Construction, Engineering, Operations, and commissioning teams to resolve technical concerns and support project progress.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable mechanical codes, safety standards, and project specifications, including IMC, IPC, NFPA, and ASHRAE requirements.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of technical education and relevant experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, mechanical construction, or construction engineering, preferably involving large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
  • Experience inspecting mechanical installations, identifying construction deficiencies, and coordinating corrective actions.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, piping, plumbing, and associated mechanical infrastructure.
  • Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, technical submittals, construction specifications, and BIM coordination models.
  • Working knowledge of applicable mechanical codes and standards, including IMC, IPC, NFPA, and ASHRAE.
  • Experience supporting mechanical equipment testing, commissioning, construction quality assurance, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to independently evaluate construction quality, communicate technical concerns, and coordinate effectively with contractors, design engineers, and project teams.

We recognize that experience and skills can come from different paths. Relevant professional, hands-on, educational, military, trade, and industry experience may all provide the skills and knowledge needed to succeed at DataOne.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting data center construction, hyperscale facilities, or other mission-critical infrastructure projects.
  • Previous experience as a Resident Engineer, Owner's Representative, Mechanical Construction Engineer, or Mechanical Quality Assurance Engineer.
  • Familiarity with critical cooling systems, including CRAH/CRAC units, chillers, liquid cooling systems, and redundant mechanical configurations.
  • Experience with mechanical commissioning, ASHRAE Guideline 0, integrated systems testing, and large-scale construction projects.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in New Jersey or another applicable state, and/or OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification.

What to Expect

  • Full-time, on-site position at our Vineland, New Jersey facility, generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
  • Availability to respond to technical questions and support project needs during evenings or weekends when necessary.
  • Daily collaboration with construction contractors, engineering teams, commissioning personnel, and DataOne project leadership.
  • Potential travel to additional DataOne project locations as future construction projects develop.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs and ladders, and access active construction areas, mechanical rooms, equipment platforms, and other designated facility spaces. Work may involve exposure to construction equipment, industrial machinery, elevated noise levels, and varying environmental conditions. Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn, and all site inspections and construction activities must follow established safety procedures.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
