The posting

At Datashift, we’re looking for a senior Analytics Engineer. As an Analytics Engineer, you transform raw, messy data into clean, tested, trusted datasets that drive business decisions and create real value. You work at the intersection of software engineering and business understanding to bring structure, clarity, and reliability to how organizations use data, resulting in organizations that makes faster, smarter decisions based on data they can actually rely on.

Do you have 4 to 6 years of experience as a Data or Analytics Engineer, including experience in a cloud environment? Do you possess a passion for approaching projects from an end-to-end data perspective? Then we would be delighted to receive your application!

Your responsibilities

You'll help ambitious organizations across the Benelux transform their data challenges into competitive advantages. Our clients range from mid-market enterprises to large organizations that are modernizing their data infrastructure and analytics capabilities.

Your daily work as a senior Analytics Engineer includes:

  • Data Modeling — Designing data models that reflect how the business side actually works
  • Stakeholder Collaboration — Working with data analysts, BI teams, and business leaders to understand the meaning and potential business value of their data, and how to structure and organize it accordingly
  • dbt — Writing and testing dbt models that transform raw data into trusted data assets
  • Data Testing & Quality — Building automated tests to immediately discover anomalies and interrupted data flows
  • Documentation & Governance — Creating semantic layers and metric definitions so analysts, BI developers and AI applications can reliably access governed data
  • Knowledge Sharing — Teaching colleagues about data modeling patterns, best practices, and helping them level up their craft

Your qualifications

  • Analytical and solution-oriented — You break complex problems down into manageable pieces and find elegant solutions, noticing and resolving inconsistencies in the process
  • Collaborative — You work well with data analysts, BI developers, business teams, and fellow engineers. You're a translator between technical and business perspectives — explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and translating business needs into technical solutions
  • Comfortable with ambiguity — Client projects aren't always clear-cut defined. You thrive in environments where you’re not just nodding along and solving given problems, but where you dig deeper on the “why” behind a client’s question and define a solution that answers that business need
  • Humble and curious — You know data is never "done." You continue to stay up to date on industry trends and implement impactful improvements where possible
  • Language: Fluent in English and Dutch

Your core skills

  • SQL — You write complex queries, understand window functions, CTEs, and can optimize for performance
  • Data Modeling — You can translate business requirements into well-designed data models that scale and evolve with organizational needs. You're familiar with approaches like dimensional modeling, Data Vault, Kimball methodology, or similar techniques
  • dbt Expertise — You understand data architecture patterns and layering concepts. You can design dbt project structures, write effective tests, document models, and work comfortably with Jinja and YAML
  • Data Quality Mindset — You think about testing and validation from day one. You care that "revenue" means the same thing everywhere
  • Version Control & Collaboration — Git is your friend. You understand code review, branching strategies, and how to work in teams on data projects
  • Python Fundamentals — You don't need to be a Python developer, but you should be comfortable working in a Python environment

Nice-to-haves

  • Cloud Data Warehouse Experience — You've worked with Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, or similar. You understand how modern cloud warehouses relate to performance and costs
  • Semantic Layer / Metrics Layer — You understand what a semantic layer is and how it's used to enable governed, self-service analytics
  • BI Tool Integration — You've worked with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools. You understand how data models power dashboards that deliver insights and drive business value

Our offer

  • Your work matters — You'll solve real complex data problems for real organizations, with real impact as end goal
  • A highly entrepreneurial team
  • A no-nonsense working environment with a focus on high quality, where you’ll find both the challenge to develop your skills and take on new responsibilities as the guidance to help you on that path where needed
  • Excellent terms of employment (including company car, fuel card, meal vouchers & bonusses);
  • Fringe benefits including continuous training that builds and extends professional, technical and management skills in all areas;
  • The opportunity to grow together with Datashift in terms of capabilities as well as financial benefits.

Interested?

If this resonates with you — if you care about data transformation, you love SQL and dbt, and you want to work on problems that matter — we want to hear from you. Apply, and let's have a conversation!

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
