Build the future of spaceflight.
We're looking for a Flight Authorization & Certification Engineer to mainly help enable Dawn's spaceplane to fly in Europe and also support space regulatory technical work activities.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of the space and aerospace industry and contribute to the development and operation of Dawn’s advanced technologies in Europe.
Working at the intersection of engineering, flight operations and regulation, you'll coordinate the activities required to secure flight approvals, conduct adequate operational and technical risk assessment, identify mitigations to meet aviation and launch safety criteria, manage multidisciplinary technical inputs, and help translate innovative aerospace technology into authorised flight operations.
You'll collaborate with engineers, flight operations specialists and regulatory authorities to solve novel challenges and help enable reusable spaceplane operations in Europe.
What You'll Do
- Coordinate activities required to obtain flight authorisations for European operations.
- Identify, interpret and apply applicable regulations, standards and operational requirements.
- Prepare flight authorisation submissions, safety assessments and supporting technical evidence.
- Conduct operational and technical risk assessments and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate vehicle, payload and flight readiness activities with engineering and operations teams.
- Coordinate activities across Engineering, Systems, Flight Operations and Ground Operations to achieve regulatory approvals.
- Manage regulatory actions, milestones and technical deliverables throughout the authorisation process.
- Participate in technical reviews and Flight Readiness Reviews.
- Build productive relationships with regulatory authorities, partners and test site operators.
- Contribute to the development of future flight authorisation processes and ongoing regulatory compliance.
- Coordinate project activities, including project planning, technical review, deliverables and milestones achievement.
- Contribute and support regulatory works especially for space activities
You'll Bring
- A degree in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Systems, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience translating technical or regulatory requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Experience preparing clear, accurate technical documentation, safety cases or regulatory submissions.
- The ability to coordinate technical and project activities across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- A practical, structured approach to solving complex engineering problems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Nice to Have
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Flight authorisation, certification or regulatory compliance.
- Airworthiness, systems safety or safety assurance.
- Flight testing or flight operations.
- Verification, validation or qualification programmes.
- Systems engineering.
- Technical project coordination or project engineering.
- Experience working with aviation or space regulatory frameworks.
About You
You're curious, organised and comfortable working across engineering, operations and regulation. You enjoy solving complex problems, working with multidisciplinary teams and taking ownership of work that helps move a vehicle from the workshop to flight.
If you think you have what it takes but don't tick every box, we'd still love to hear from you.

About Dawn Aerospace
Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company with a purpose. Our mission is to enable the next generation of space users by providing more sustainable and scalable ways to access and move around in space. We believe this access, in the form of a transportation network, will fundamentally change what’s possible from space. We currently focus on three areas of space transportation:
- In-space propulsion We're a leading supplier of turnkey green propulsion systems for various classes of satellites. Our systems utilise safe, accessible propellants and we have over 170 of these propulsion units on more than 40 operational satellites already. A further 200 units are in production.
- In-space servicing Coupled with our propulsion expertise, we are ensuring that our customers' satellites are refuellable. In the coming years, Dawn will offer a refueling service to enable life extension of customer satellites. This new market is aligned with our sustainability goal to ensue a clean and safe space for everyone!
- Spaceplane We are developing the fastest and highest-flying aircraft ever to take off from a runway, combining the extreme performance of rocket propulsion with the reusability of conventional airplanes to enable high-frequency, low-cost access to sub-orbital space.
Our international teams are distributed across four locations: the Netherlands, France, New Zealand, and the USA.
