Job Description

Job Summary:

The Construction Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing EHS management systems, policies, and technical standards to ensure full compliance with applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations throughout construction activities.

This role requires strong leadership and extensive technical expertise to proactively identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective control measures across high-risk activities such as lifting operations, working at height, electrical works, and energy isolation, to ensure a safe and compliant working environment.

• Technical Program Management:

Develop, implement, and maintain the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management System in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, company standards, and client requirements. Ensure all construction activities are executed in accordance with EHS requirements and industry best practices.

• Regulatory Compliance:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable local and international EHS regulations and standards, including U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Indonesia Ministry of Manpower (MOM), and National Environment Agency (NEA). Ensure all project policies, procedures, and practices are aligned with these regulatory requirements.

• Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

Conduct comprehensive project risk assessments and maintain a project risk register to identify, evaluate, and control potential safety, health, and environmental risks. Develop and implement effective mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce identified risks and enhance overall project safety and quality.

• Audit and Inspection Leadership:

Plan, lead, and participate in internal EHS audits, site inspections, and regulatory inspections. Analyse audit findings and ensure timely implementation and closure of corrective and preventive actions. Provide technical EHS leadership and guidance for high-risk construction activities, including lifting operations, working at height, electrical works, hot work, and energy isolation (LOTO).

• Training and Communication:

Develop and deliver EHS induction programs, toolbox talks, and specialized training for employees, contractors, and management. Act as a technical subject matter expert and effectively communicate EHS expectations, requirements, and performance across the project.

• Incident Management:

Lead and manage investigations of incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.

• Stakeholder Coordination:

Coordinate and collaborate with project teams, contractors, and relevant external authorities on all EHS-related matters to ensure alignment, compliance, and effective implementation of EHS programs.

Required Experience, Qualifications and Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. An engineering background is preferred.

• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) role, preferably within construction, oil and gas, or infrastructure projects.

• Mandatory certification as an EHS professional, such as AK3U, Lifting Safety certification, Electrical Safety certification, and Working at Height certification. Additional certifications including IOSH, NEBOSH, CSP, or Fire Safety are considered an advantage.

• Strong proficiency in both written and spoken English is required. Ability to communicate in Mandarin is an (added advantage) for coordination with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
