Job Description

Software Principal Engineer

The Agentic Development Lifecycle (ADLC) Portal is the central platform our engineering organization uses to deliver software with AI agents as first-class team members. Engineers, architects and product managers use it to author and approve specifications, launch and monitor agent-driven implementation pipelines, enforce quality and governance gates, and trace every change from requirement to production with a full audit trail and delivery metrics. We are a small, AI-native team operating like a startup inside Dell: high autonomy, weekly shipping, and humans and AI agents sharing the delivery work every day. We don't just use AI tools; we build the platform that governs how AI builds software.

Join us to do the best work of your career and make a profound impact as a Software Principal Engineer on our AI Governance Engineering team in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. This is an onsite role.

What you'll achieve

As the senior hands-on engineer on the ADLC Portal, you will design and ship major subsystems end to end: front end, back-end services, and the data layer that stores specifications, artifacts, agent runs and their lineage. You will spend most of your time building (70%+), working alongside AI agents as part of your daily workflow, and setting the technical bar for the team.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • Build and own major portal capabilities across the full stack, including React/TypeScript user experiences on Next.js and Node.js/TypeScript (or Python) services and APIs, from design through production operations
  • Design the data layer for versioned specifications, agent-run records, lineage and audit trails, choosing the right mix of relational (PostgreSQL), document, graph and vector storage and keeping queries fast and cost-efficient as data grows
  • Integrate AI agents and LLMs into the product: tool calling, agent orchestration, streaming agent output, retrieval (RAG) and MCP integrations, with evaluations and guardrails that make agent output trustworthy
  • Work AI-native every day: write specs that agents implement, review and correct agent-generated code and tests, and continuously improve how the team delivers with agents
  • Raise the engineering bar through code and design reviews, test-driven development, observability, CI/CD on Kubernetes, and mentoring engineers on the team

Our technology stack:

  • Front end: React 19 and TypeScript on Next.js 16 (App Router, Server Components, Server Actions), Tailwind CSS, Chart.js.
  • Back end: Node.js / TypeScript services and APIs with Zod schema validation, server-sent events for streaming agent output; Python (e.g. FastAPI) services
  • Data: PostgreSQL, plus caching and file-backed state stores, with a roadmap toward Redis, vector search (e.g. pgvector) and graph-based lineage
  • AI and agents: OpenAI-compatible LLM gateway, agent loops with tool calling, AI coding agents (e.g. Claude Code, Devin, Copilot) and MCP integrations
  • Integrations and identity: GitHub Enterprise REST and GraphQL APIs (Octokit, GitHub Apps), OAuth/OIDC single sign-on (NextAuth, Okta)
  • Quality and delivery: Vitest, React Testing Library, Playwright with accessibility checks, ESLint, test-driven development, GitHub Actions CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes / Red Hat OpenShift with autoscaling

Take the first step towards your dream career

Every Dell Technologies team member brings something unique to the table. Here's what we are looking for with this role:

Essential Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping and operating full-stack production systems;
  • Deep hands-on expertise in React with TypeScript (Next.js or a similar framework) and Node.js/TypeScript or Python back ends, including API design, authentication (OAuth/OIDC) and containerized deployment on Kubernetes
  • Strong data modeling and database skills, especially PostgreSQL: schema design for versioned and hierarchical metadata, indexing and query optimization, partitioning, caching, and knowing when to use document, graph or vector store
  • Shipped at least one production feature built on LLMs or AI agents (not only used AI coding assistants), and uses agentic development tools as a core part of daily engineering work
  • Thrives in a startup-style environment: comfortable with ambiguity, ships MVPs quickly, iterates on feedback and owns outcomes end to end

Desirable Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Experience building developer platforms, SDLC/DevOps tooling or governance and audit systems, including GitHub/GitHub Enterprise API integrations, Redis, pgvector, event sourcing or knowledge graphs (e.g. Neo4j)
  • Experience with LLM evaluation and agent frameworks (e.g. LangGraph, OpenAI Agents SDK), MCP, Playwright end-to-end testing, Red Hat OpenShift, or contributions to open-source AI projects

About Dell Technologies — ISG Developer Experience

Dell's Infrastructure Solutions Group is a global leader in Solutions, Storage, Compute, and Networking. The Developer Experience organization within ISG is responsible for developer productivity, tooling, observability, and platform engineering for approximately 9,000 engineers. Our current mandate spans agentic SDLC transformation, AI tooling governance, and the operating model changes required to make AI-assisted development the norm — not the exception.

Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) builds the products that power infrastructure, solutions, and data management our customers need most. Our teams design and develop the hardware and software that connect infrastructure, accelerate computational workloads, integrate across the stack, protect data continuity, and deliver the platforms, applications, and diagnostics our customers rely on every day at enterprise scale.

Some product builders follow the rules. Ours rewrite them.

Within ISG, innovation isn't just about creating new technology- it's about challenging assumptions and reimagining how work gets done. Engineers define intent, author precise specifications, and orchestrate AI agents that execute at speed and scale. AI is embedded throughout our development process, helping us move faster, learn quicker, and deliver greater impact. Yet the most important contribution remains uniquely human: deciding what to build, designing how it should work, and applying the judgment needed to earn our customers' trust. When your products power critical infrastructure around the world, that responsibility matters.

We move quickly toward the work that matters most. We reward experimentation, encourage bold thinking, and remove unnecessary barriers so great ideas can become reality faster. Our teams embrace a customer-first, first-to-market mindset, transforming rapid feedback into better products and better outcomes. We aren't looking for people who are content with the status quo- we look for builders who question it, improve it, and occasionally rewrite it.

If you're energized by solving complex systems challenges, excited to work alongside AI to amplify your impact, and motivated by the opportunity to shape what's next instead of simply maintaining what's been done before, you'll find your place here.

Join us and help build the future of enterprise technology.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
