Salary: up to £40,000 pa DOE

We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team in Worksop.

This is an on-site role, giving you the opportunity to work closely with Engineering and Production and see first-hand how your designs translate into manufactured products. You’ll create and develop mechanical designs for refuse and recycling vehicles and associated equipment, taking components from initial concept through to production drawing release. Whether you’re already established as a Mechanical Design Engineer or looking to develop your experience further, this is an opportunity to work on real products and stay connected to the manufacturing environment.

What you’ll be doing

  • Creating 3D CAD designs and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Developing components from initial concept through to production-ready drawings.
  • Designing components, fabrications, machined parts and general assemblies.
  • Working with mechanical mechanisms involving linkages, pivots and actuators.
  • Applying engineering calculations to support your designs.
  • Creating bills of materials for ERP and product configuration systems.
  • Reviewing and updating drawings and technical documentation as designs evolve.
  • Working on site alongside Engineering and Production colleagues, allowing you to understand manufacturing requirements and see how designs perform in practice.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the wider Terberg Environmental Group.
  • Considering quality, cost and timing throughout the design process.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working within a mechanical design or drawing office environment.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience developing components from concept through to production-ready drawings.
  • Experience designing products and components with manufacturing requirements in mind.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems involving linkages, pivots and actuators.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
  • An understanding of engineering quality processes.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to communicate clearly with colleagues across Engineering and Production.
  • To be comfortable working on site at our Worksop facility as part of the Engineering team.

A Mechanical Engineering qualification such as an HNC, HND or degree is welcomed, but relevant experience demonstrating equivalent skills will also be considered.

It would be useful if you also have

Experience in any of the following would be an advantage, but isn't essential:

  • Trucks, off-highway equipment or other low-volume, complex products.
  • Hydraulic or pneumatic systems.
  • Automotive engineering.
  • Engineering within a production environment.
  • AutoCAD, Solid Edge or Teamcenter.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Creating bills of materials for ERP or configuration systems.

If you enjoy turning ideas into practical mechanical designs and want to work on site in a manufacturing environment where you can see your designs progress from concept to production, we'd love to hear from you.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds. Even if you don't meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply. We value potential and are committed to supporting your development.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
