Job Description:

Overview

Deriva Energy, a portfolio company of Brookfield Renewable U.S., is a national leader in sustainable energy solutions including wind, solar, backup power, and energy management services. With over 5,100 megawatts of nonregulated renewable energy capacity, we are shaping the future of clean energy in the U.S.

Job Summary

The Senior Business Analyst supports profitable growth and financial planning for Deriva Energy's services organization. The role supports field services, high-voltage services, gearbox services, large corrective services, and long-term service agreements for utility-scale energy assets. Commercial opportunities range from approximately $25,000 projects to long-term service agreements exceeding $10 million in revenue.

Working with the Customer Sales Manager, Senior Director, and Service Team managers, the Senior Analyst develops pricing, coordinates proposals and contract reviews, and prepares financial analyses and executive presentations. The position requires independent ownership of work, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to turn leadership direction and technical input into clear recommendations and completed deliverables.

This role has the option to work from one of these Deriva Energy offices: Charlotte, NC; Canby, MN; Brookings, SD; Tye, TX.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing and Market Analysis

  • Independently develop pricing using established templates, then review assumptions and proposed delivery plans with service managers serving as technical subject matter experts
  • Evaluate labor, equipment, travel, subcontractor costs, overhead, and margin assumptions. Adjust pricing with service managers to reflect execution requirements and commercial objectives
  • Research market conditions and competitor positioning to recommend competitive charge rates and pricing strategies that maximize profitability and support lasting customer relationships

Proposals and Contract Coordination

  • Coordinate the proposal process from RFP review and scope development through pricing, leadership approval, and submission. Gather inputs, manage deadlines, and maintain accurate proposal documents
  • Support commercial contract negotiations following award and facilitate reviews between clients, internal Legal, leadership, and service managers through contract finalization
  • Coordinate client communications and internal follow-up, clarify outstanding questions, and ensure proposed commitments reflect the agreed scope, pricing, and delivery capabilities

Financial Planning and Performance Reporting

  • Support annual budget development across the services organization, including revenue and expense forecasts, staffing requirements, and labor-capacity assumptions
  • Maintain monthly win/loss reporting and analyze charge-rate profitability, bid outcomes, and performance against financial plans. Recommend changes to pricing, resource allocation, or commercial approach
  • Improve existing reporting processes and maintain reliable financial models, documented assumptions, and information that leadership can use to evaluate business performance

Leadership Support and Process Ownership

  • Prepare senior leadership and board presentations that explain proposed pricing, expected margins, resource requirements, execution risks, customer value, and potential for recurring revenue
  • Translate leadership priorities into work plans and recommendations, incorporating technical input from service managers and facilitating decisions across teams
  • Own assigned processes and deliverables with limited day-to-day oversight. Anticipate information needs, resolve routine issues, and keep leadership informed of decisions or risks requiring attention
  • Identify and implement improvements to templates, workflows, and reporting in coordination with affected teams to reduce rework and improve consistency
  • Provide ad hoc business development support, including service cut sheets, landing-page content, conference materials, and other sales documents

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, economics, finance, or a related field
  • In addition to a bachelor’s degree, three (3) years or more of relevant experience in business analysis, financial analysis, commercial support, process improvement, or team coordination
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree AND six (6) years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of relevant experience with an MBA in progress or completed or relevant degree
  • Experience supporting proposals, contract negotiations, annual budgets, or pricing for project-based services or long-term service agreements
  • Prior experience in Large Scale Services
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, formulas, data analysis, and preparation of clear pricing and budget worksheets
  • Strong Microsoft PowerPoint skills and the ability to turn financial and operational information into clear presentations for senior leadership
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills, with the ability to guide discussions among clients, leadership, and service managers, keep meetings focused, and establish clear decisions, action items, and follow-up responsibilities
  • Understanding of cost structures, margins, pricing, budgeting, and market research, with the ability to develop recommendations from incomplete or changing information
  • Strong written communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to coordinate clients, technical managers, Legal, and leadership while managing competing deadlines
  • Demonstrated ownership of work, attention to detail, and initiative in improving processes and delivering accurate results with limited supervision
  • Experience using AI tools to support document creation and revision, with responsibility for reviewing accuracy and final output quality

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
