The posting
Develop Health is on a mission to use AI to radically accelerate access to life-saving medications. By automating complex, manual healthcare processes—like benefit verification and prior authorization— we've been growing rapidly and over the past couple of years have helped over 2.5 million patients!
We’re partnering with some of the largest pharmacy benefit managers and payers in the nation, revolutionizing how healthcare interactions occur by eliminating human delays and inefficiencies. Our small, elite team of founders and engineers have previously launched and exited successful healthcare startups including Rupa Health and Canvas Medical. We are now scaling rapidly following a major funding round.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're hiring a Head of Provider Growth to own provider activation, measured by one number: how many provider offices respond the first time we reach them, and go on to complete their first prior authorization with us.
When a pharmacy or hub sends us a prescription that needs a prior authorization, we usually need something from the prescriber's office first, most often the clinical notes. Many of those offices have never heard of us. We reach them by fax, email, secure message to their EHR, and phone. How many of them respond, and how fast, decides how quickly patients start their medication and how much our pharmacy and pharma partners get from working with us.
You'll report to our CEO and lead the activation team: a Sales Development Manager who runs our calling team, and a Growth Marketing Lead who owns fax, email, and digital messaging. You'll work closely with the product manager and engineers who build our outreach tools, and with the pharmacies and hubs we act on behalf of. You own the plan, the budget, the headcount, and the result.
Three things define success in this role:
1. You own the activation number. First-time provider response rate, and the first-time submissions that follow. You review it weekly by channel and type of office, and you can explain what moved it.
2. You build the team. You hire and run the sales development manager and growth lead, and you decide where the next hire or dollar goes: more callers, a new digital channel, better contact data, or an outside vendor.
3. You make the tradeoffs. Between channels, between speed and cost, and between what operations can do by hand and what product should build. You bring a clear case to product, engineering, and our partners.
You don't need a healthcare background, but you do need to pick up a complex domain quickly. Startup experience is a strong plus.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Own the outcome
- Set the quarterly activation goal with the CEO, and the plan to hit it.
- Run a weekly review of the activation funnel by channel and type of office.
- Decide the channel mix and what to test next, and stop what isn't working.
Lead the team
- Manage the Sales Development Manager and the Growth Marketing Lead, and hire either role if it's still open when you start.
- Own calling capacity and staffing: when to add callers, contract help, or automation.
- Set clear goals for each role and hold them to the numbers.
Work across the company
- Bring product and engineering the problems worth building for, and agree priorities with the product manager who owns our outreach tools.
- Evaluate and run outside channels and data vendors, such as HCP messaging networks, provider contact data, and branded caller ID.
- Work with pharmacy and hub partners on how we reach offices on their behalf, and report results to them and to pharma sponsors.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING ON DAY 1
- You've run a function with a number. Growth, activation, sales development, or operations, where you owned an outcome and the team behind it. You've managed managers or a team with several roles.
- You've built a funnel and moved it. You can walk us through the starting number, what you changed, and the result.
- You go deep on operations. You listen to calls, read the queue, and rewrite the copy yourself when it needs it.
- Quantitative fluency. You pull your own data and know how to set up a comparison you can trust.
- You work well with product and engineering. You can turn what you see in operations into a problem engineers want to solve.
- Clear writing. Your plans and weekly updates are short and easy to act on.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO LEARN QUICKLY
- Our domain: prior authorization, benefit verification, and medication access, and why they matter to providers, pharmacies, and pharma.
- How a provider office works: who opens the fax, who answers the phone, who handles prior authorizations, and what makes them act.
- Our partners: how pharmacies and hubs work with us, and what pharma sponsors need to see.
BONUS POINTS
- Operating experience in healthcare: specialty pharmacy, hub services, patient access, or revenue cycle.
- GM, growth, or operations leadership at an early-stage startup.
- You've evaluated and run outside vendors and paid channels against a clear return.
THIS MIGHT NOT BE THE RIGHT FIT IF
- You want a strategy role without the operating. You'll be in the queue and on calls, especially early.
- You need a full team in place. One or both of your direct reports may still be open when you start, and hiring them is part of the job.
- You want to own the product. Product decisions sit with our product manager. You bring the problems and the priorities.
- You need a lot of structure. We don't have much yet, and building it is part of the job.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive base salary plus meaningful early-stage equity.
- A direct line to the CEO and real ownership of a business outcome.
- Work that directly accelerates access to medication for hundreds of thousands of patients, with room to grow as the function scales.
