The posting

Do you want to be a valued part of the critical infrastructure that serves communities across Europe and beyond? Are you motivated by turning complex challenges into simple, user-centred solutions while collaborating closely with product and engineering teams? If so, then you could be the newest addition to our team as Product Designer (Maternity Cover).

At DFDS, we're continuously improving the way people and goods move across Europe through better digital experiences. As our Product Designer, you'll help turn complex challenges into intuitive, user-centred solutions that create real value for our customers and colleagues.

Be part of the movement and support mission critical products in Ferry Freight operations

About the role

You’ll be part of the Ferry Operations product teams, working closely with a cross-functional team of developers, data scientists, and business stakeholders.

You’ll be joining a cross-functional team on a mission to improve transport planning across Europe. The team focuses on learning quickly, testing early, and building solutions that are practical and easy to adopt. All team members bring energy, clarity, and a strong user focus - creating space to collaborate and build with purpose.

Beyond your immediate team, you will also become part of one of two design chapters at DFDS, a close-knit professional community of 12 Product and Service Designers. The chapter is where we deep dive into our craft and where people challenge and learn from each other.

Your will:

  • Lead the user experience design for mission-critical product for operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with your product team to inform needs for your product and its users.
  • Turn research and user testing feedback into intuitive, efficient workflows and UI designs.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and design documentation in Figma.
  • Plan and run usability tests, iterate based on insights, and support implementation.
  • Analyse data, synthesize relevant insights, and share with relevant stakeholders across DFDS.
  • Work closely with developers, digital transformation consultants, data scientists, product owners and business stakeholders to ship quality features.

About you

We believe the strongest teams are built on diverse perspectives, complementary strengths, and a shared commitment to learning from one another. That's why we're looking for a Product Designer who combines structure and curiosity with a genuine passion for understanding the people they design for.

You are collaborative by nature and enjoy working closely with product owners, engineers, and stakeholders to solve complex challenges. You communicate openly, seek out different perspectives, and can clearly articulate the rationale behind your design decisions. Balancing user needs with business goals comes naturally to you, and you're motivated by creating simple, intuitive experiences that make a meaningful impact.

You are comfortable taking ownership of your work from discovery through delivery, bringing both initiative and follow-through to everything you do. Most importantly, you have empathy for your users and a drive to continuously improve the products and services they rely on.

What we imagine you'll bring:

  • 3+ years of experience in Product Design, UX/UI Design, or a similar role
  • Experience designing internal tools, operational systems, or other complex digital products
  • Strong end-to-end product design experience, from discovery and research through to delivery
  • Excellent Product Design skills, with particular strength in designing workflows and complex user journeys
  • Experience conducting user research, usability testing, interviews, and observational studies
  • A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end design work on real-world digital products
  • Experience using both qualitative and quantitative insights to inform design decisions
  • Experience working in cross-functional product teams, ideally within Agile/Scrum environments
  • Experience working in a larger international organisation is an advantage
  • Familiarity with analytics tools and AI-powered solutions is a plus

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
