The posting

Do you want to lead the ecological interpretation of complex offshore bird-monitoring projects? Can you turn radar, video, acoustic and environmental data into scientifically defensible conclusions for clients and regulators? Join DHI and take scientific ownership of projects at the intersection of avian ecology, technology and offshore wind.

Responsibilities and challenges

We are looking for a Biologist to support the scientific delivery of DHI MUSE and avian ecology projects. You will contribute to biological reviews, ecological analyses, reporting, and project coordination, working with experienced biologists, data scientists, instrumentation specialists and project managers. You will take increasing ownership of routine project-level scientific tasks, with guidance from senior colleagues and the Scientific Lead.

Your main responsibilities and challenges will include:

  • Prepare, organise and analyse radar, video, acoustic, weather and system-status data needed for scientific deliverables.
  • Contribute to ecological analyses of flight trajectories, bird flux, species distribution, phenology, avoidance behaviour and collision risk.
  • Work with data scientists and analysts to review results and interpret them in their ecological context.
  • Draft report sections, technical notes, presentations, figures, tables and responses to review comments.
  • Document assumptions, uncertainty, limitations and other performance aspects clearly and consistently.
  • Participate in project meetings and support communication with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and other DHI teams.
  • Follow approved methods and quality procedures, and escalate unsupported conclusions or non-standard methods to senior colleagues.

Qualifications and personal skills

We are looking for a colleague with the following qualifications:

Required:

  • Master's degree in biology, ecology, ornithology or a closely related discipline, equivalent relevant qualifications or other proven merits and references in ornithology.
  • A strong foundation in avian ecology, species identification, animal behaviour, migration ecology or environmental monitoring.
  • Ability to analyse scientific information and communicate findings clearly in writing and orally.
  • Careful and consistent approach to biological classification, quality assurance and documentation.
  • Good data-handling skills and willingness to work with radar, video, acoustic and environmental datasets.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to collaborate across biological, analytical, technical and project-management disciplines.
  • Ability to use AI to speed up delivery without loss of quality.

Desirable:

  • Relevant professional, internship, thesis or research experience in bird monitoring, ecological consultancy or offshore wind.
  • Experience reviewing wildlife video or acoustic recordings, identifying birds, or working with behavioural annotations.
  • Experience in R, Python or other tools used for data analysis.
  • Knowledge of environmental impact assessment, collision-risk modelling or remote-sensing methods.

Personal qualities:

  • Curious, methodical and keen to learn.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable asking for guidance when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and scientific integrity.
  • Collaborative, service-minded and able to communicate with colleagues from different disciplines.

We offer

To work at DHI means being part of an organisation that addresses complex challenges in water and the environment. We will offer you:

  • A role where ecological science is applied directly to offshore wind and environmental decision-making.
  • Collaboration with biologists, data scientists, analysts, instrumentation specialists and project managers.
  • Professional and personal development, with room to grow your scientific and client-facing responsibilities.
  • Flexible working opportunities.
  • A diverse, international network of highly skilled colleagues.
  • The opportunity to contribute to the continued development of DHI MUSE and avian ecology services.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
