The posting

Company Overview Docusign brings agreements to life. More than 1.8 million customers and more than a billion people in over 180 countries use Docusign solutions to accelerate the process of doing business and simplify people’s lives. With intelligent agreement management, Docusign unleashes business-critical data that is trapped inside of documents. Until now, these were disconnected from business systems of record, costing businesses time, money, and opportunity. Using the Docusign AI-native IAM platform, companies can create, commit, and manage agreements with solutions created by the #1 company in e-signature and contract lifecycle management (CLM). What you'll do Docusign is looking for a Senior Performance Engineer to make our production systems faster, more efficient, and more resilient. In this role, you will investigate complex performance issues across applications, services, infrastructure, and cloud environments to deliver measurable improvements. You will turn production data into actionable root-cause findings while combining systems thinking, software troubleshooting, and fleet optimization. Collaborating with development, SRE, and infrastructure teams, you will identify bottlenecks and safely deploy optimizations across large-scale environments. Additionally, you will scale engineering practices by building reusable tools, dashboards, and knowledge-sharing content that empower teams to resolve issues independently. This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Senior Director, Engineering. Responsibility Investigate production performance issues involving high CPU, high memory, latency, queuing, crashes, timeouts, throughput degradation, resource saturation, and service availability Collect and analyze the right evidence for each symptom using logs, metrics, traces, dumps, profiles, ETW data, application telemetry, and infrastructure signals Apply a structured investigation process: define the problem, reproduce or isolate the behavior, form and test hypotheses, identify the root cause, implement or recommend a fix, and validate the result after deployment Use profilers, debuggers, memory analysis tools, distributed tracing, and application performance monitoring systems to diagnose issues across application and infrastructure layers Analyze CPU, memory, garbage collection, thread activity, I/O, network behavior, database calls, request queues, and dependency interactions to identify performance constraints Design and maintain performance dashboards, health checks, alerts, and measurement pipelines that make latency, throughput, utilization, capacity, and saturation visible to engineering teams Lead or contribute to capacity planning, headroom analysis, workload characterization, right-sizing, and fleet optimization across cloud and production environments Measure before-and-after results for tuning changes and communicate impact using meaningful metrics such as P95/P99 latency, throughput, CPU and memory utilization, concurrency, error rates, and cost efficiency Design workload models from production traffic characteristics, including request mix, arrival patterns, payload distributions, and representative data volumes Build and run load, stress, soak, scalability, and regression tests using appropriate automation and load-generation tools Partner with development teams on performance-focused code, configuration, architecture, and deployment improvements Develop reusable data-collection tools, diagnostic workflows, automation, and self-service capabilities that reduce time to resolution and scale performance investigations Coach and mentor engineers and Performance Leads through investigation techniques, systems thinking, debugging tools, and knowledge-sharing sessions Document findings, root causes, remediation plans, operational procedures, and lessons learned in a way that can be reused across teams Participate in production support and collaborate on complex incidents, while helping teams distinguish symptoms from underlying causes Job Designation Hybrid: Employee divides their time between in-office and remote work. Access to an office location is required. (Frequency: Minimum 2 days per week; may vary by team but will be weekly in-office expectation) Positions at Docusign are assigned a job designation of either In Office, Hybrid or Remote and are specific to the role/job. Preferred job designations are not guaranteed when changing positions within Docusign. Docusign reserves the right to change a position's job designation depending on business needs and as permitted by local law. What you bring Basic 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, systems engineering, SRE, production engineering, or performance engineering Demonstrated experience diagnosing performance problems in production or large-scale test environments Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as C#, Java, C++, Go, Python, or Shell Experience analyzing application and system behavior using metrics, logs, traces, profiles, dumps, or comparable diagnostic data Understanding of operating-system and runtime concepts such as processes, threads, memory allocation, garbage collection, I/O, networking, concurrency, and resource contention Experience with monitoring and observability tools, dashboards, alerting, and telemetry design Experience performing root-cause analysis and communicating technical findings to developers, SREs, and technical leaders Experience with cloud infrastructure, Linux or Windows production systems, and containerized services Ability to participate in on-call or incident-response activities and improve runbooks based on operational learning Preferred Experience with distributed tracing and APM platforms such as Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Prometheus, or Grafana Experience with Azure or Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and cloud resource management Experience with capacity modeling, headroom analysis, forecasting, fleet right-sizing, infrastructure efficiency, or cost optimization Experience designing and operating load-generation and performance-test systems using tools such as k6, Gatling, Locust, or JMeter Experience creating production-representative workload models and interpreting latency, throughput, concurrency, saturation, and error-rate data Experience with database performance analysis, including query plans, indexing, lock contention, connection pooling, and workload optimization Hands-on experience with performance tools such as PerfView, Windows Performance Analyzer, WinDbg, ProcDump, GC dumps, .NET diagnostics, profilers, or equivalent Linux tooling Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, ephemeral test environments, performance gates, or automated regression detection Experience investigating .NET or JVM applications, Windows services, web servers, distributed systems, or Kubernetes workloads Experience teaching performance investigation techniques or building a community of practice across engineering teams Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience Ability to work independently on well-defined investigations and small engineering projects with limited supervision Life at Docusign Working here Docusign is committed to building trust and making the world more agreeable for our employees, customers and the communities in which we live and work. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
