The posting

Growth team · Full-time or part-time, permanent · Remote or hybrid

We help some of the best businesses in Asia Pacific make money. Your job is to make sure the whole industry knows it. Join DotCollective as our first dedicated communications hire and make us the agency people quote, invite, listen to and call first.

Why this role

  • A story worth telling. 130+ brands, $8B+ in client GMV, household-name clients and an agency model built around AI. The material is here; it just needs someone to get it out there.
  • Build it your way. You'll be our first dedicated comms hire, with the freedom to set the plan, choose the channels and launch new things.
  • Direct access. You'll work closely with our founders, leadership team and clients, not three layers removed from the people you're putting on the frontline.
  • Fame, not campaigns. This role is about earned attention: press, commentary, stages, conversations and community. Not campaign budgets.

About DotCollective

We build, grow and fix commerce operations for brands that take commerce seriously, B2B and D2C alike. We're a Shopify Platinum Partner and the #1 Shopify POS agency in ANZ, managing $8B+ in client GMV across 130+ brands in four countries, including Kathmandu, Rip Curl, Brandbank, DISSH, Space Furniture, Brand Collective and Essity.

We work differently from most agencies. Instead of selling hours and open-ended retainers, we offer sixteen programs across Build, Grow and Fix, each with a defined scope, measurable outcomes and a clear end date. No lock-in, ever.

Human Craft. Machine Pace. We didn't bolt AI onto an agency; we rebuilt the agency around it. Strategic and design thinking from people, delivery powered by AI. It's how we deliver enterprise-quality work to a startup, a $3M brand and a $500M enterprise in the same week.

The role

You'll own DotCollective's reputation in the market. That means turning our client wins, opinions and expertise into press coverage, commentary, LinkedIn conversation, events, speaking slots and a vodcast people actually want to watch.

You'll tell our story to everyone who shapes our growth: brands looking for a partner to work with, talented people who might want to work here, and the platforms, partners and wider industry players who could open new doors for us. Each audience needs a different angle on the same story, and you'll know which one to lead with.

This is a communications and publicity role first. You'll work with our growth team, who look after ad-hoc co-marketing campaigns, but your focus is earned attention: being in the right publications, on the right stages and in the right conversations, consistently.

What you'll do

Press and media

  • Build and own relationships with journalists and editors across retail, ecommerce, marketing and business media (think Inside Retail, Power Retail, Retail World, Mumbrella, B&T, SmartCompany, AFR and their international equivalents)
  • Write and place news releases on client launches, partnerships, results, hires and company milestones
  • Monitor the news cycle and get our people quoted fast on relevant stories, from retail results to platform changes and AI in commerce
  • Pitch and place opinion pieces and bylined articles under our leaders' names

Thought leadership and speaking

  • Develop a clear point of view for DotCollective and a small group of spokespeople, and help them sharpen their voice
  • Secure speaking slots, panels and podcast guest spots at industry events and conferences, including Shopify and partner events
  • Prepare speakers with briefs, talking points and media training
  • Identify and enter awards that build credibility for us and our clients

Events

  • Partner with our Growth Manager, Partnerships & Events to plan and promote events we host, or run with partners such as Shopify, that hero our work through our clients
  • Put clients on stage and in the spotlight, and turn every event into coverage, content and podcast episodes
  • Spot industry events and partner programs where our clients' stories belong, and get us involved

Social and LinkedIn

  • Keep our company LinkedIn and social channels active, useful and consistent
  • Brief and work with our design and delivery team on the assets your stories need, from graphics, videos to event and case study visuals
  • Run an executive LinkedIn program, drafting and scheduling posts for our leaders and encouraging the wider team to share their work
  • Turn every story, release, event and episode into content that travels further

Client podcast or vodcast

  • Build a plan to run our own podcast or vodcast featuring our clients and other guests, from format and name through to guest booking, production, publishing and promotion
  • Manage production partners or freelancers, and use AI tools to speed up editing, clips and show notes
  • Make it a show clients want to be on and the industry wants to watch

Client stories

  • Work with our Delivery and Growth teams to find the best client stories, then secure approvals and turn them into case studies, releases and pitches
  • Co-ordinate joint announcements with clients and partners such as Shopify
  • Keep our website’s case studies, news, podcast and event pages fresh, so every story we tell has a home

Planning and measurement

  • Own the comms calendar and a simple plan for each quarter
  • Track and report on coverage, share of voice, social growth and engagement, speaking slots, podcast audience and, most importantly, the inbound conversations it creates with prospects, candidates and partners

What success looks like

  • First three months: You know our story, our people and our clients. You've built a media list, set a comms plan, landed our first pieces of coverage and have the podcast format and first guests locked in.
  • By six months: We're showing up regularly in the publications that matter to our clients, our leaders are posting consistently on LinkedIn, and the podcast is live and a new client case study is going live on our website every month.
  • By twelve months: Journalists come to us for comment, event organisers invite us to speak, prospects tell our Growth team they've seen us everywhere, and great candidates and partners come to us because of it.

Requirements

What you'll bring

  • 3–6 years in communications, PR, media relations or journalism, in-house, agency or newsroom
  • A track record of landing earned coverage, with examples you're proud of
  • Excellent writing: news releases, op-eds, LinkedIn posts and briefing notes, each in the right voice
  • Strong news sense and the speed to act on a story while it's still a story
  • Confidence working with senior leaders and clients, and the judgement to manage approvals well
  • Experience running social channels, ideally including executive or founder LinkedIn
  • Organisation to juggle many moving pieces at once, and the drive to make things happen without being asked
  • Comfort with AI tools to work faster, and the taste to know when output needs a human rewrite
  • A good eye for what makes content stop the scroll, and the confidence to brief designers and video editors clearly

Nice to have

  • Media contacts in retail, ecommerce, business, marketing or tech; experience launching or producing a podcast or video series; securing speaking engagements or awards; familiarity with Shopify or the commerce world.
  • The skills to make quick-turnaround assets yourself in various tools or with AI tools for images and video

Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We care more about drive and great work than a perfect CV.

Benefits

What we offer

  • The chance to build our communications function from the ground up
  • Exposure to some of Australia's most interesting retail and ecommerce brands
  • Remote-first: Work from anywhere in Australia or New Zealand, with a Melbourne co-working space available for in-person collaboration.
  • Flexibility & Autonomy: We trust our team to work in ways that suit them best - outcomes matter most.
  • Career Growth: Shape the future of eCommerce and grow your expertise within a forward-thinking team.
  • Engaging Work: Work on exciting projects for some of the biggest names in retail, solving real-world challenges.

Who you'll work with

You'll report to our CEO and work closely with our leadership team, our Growth Manager - Partnerships & Events, our Growth and Delivery teams, and our clients and partners.

How to apply

Apply via LinkedIn with your CV and two or three examples of coverage, content or campaigns you've delivered.

To stand out, add a short pitch: one story about DotCollective or our clients you'd take to a journalist, and which outlet you'd take it to.

You'll need full working rights in Australia.

We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities and abilities. If you need any adjustments during the process, just let us know.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
