Main Shop Service Advisor

Annual Earning Potential: 50,000–100,000+

At Doug Smith Subaru, we are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Main Shop Service Advisor to join our team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, has strong communication skills, and wants a position where their performance can have a significant impact on their income.

Our Service Advisors are the primary connection between our customers and technicians. You'll help customers from the time they schedule their appointment through the completion of their repairs, making sure they understand what's happening with their vehicle and that our technicians have the information they need to do their job effectively.

What You'll Be Doing

A big part of this position is communication. You'll talk with customers to understand their concerns, ask questions to gather the right information, and document those concerns accurately on the repair order. You'll then work with our technicians throughout the repair process to make sure concerns are understood and addressed.

As technicians inspect and diagnose vehicles, you'll review their findings and recommendations and communicate those back to the customer. You'll prepare estimates, explain recommended repairs and maintenance, obtain authorization, and coordinate with the technician and parts department to keep repairs moving.

You'll also help customers schedule service, provide updates while their vehicle is in the shop, review completed repairs, prepare final invoices, collect payment, and help get customers back on the road.

As a Subaru dealership, there are also important administrative responsibilities. You'll collect and document the information needed for Subaru warranty claims and work with aftermarket service contract companies to obtain repair authorization and coverage when applicable. Accurate documentation and attention to detail are important parts of doing this job well.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who can build relationships with customers while also keeping up with a busy service department.

Strong communication and organization are important. You should be comfortable discussing repair recommendations and costs with customers, managing multiple repair orders at different stages, and following through on the details that keep everything moving.

Automotive service or dealership experience is preferred, and previous Service Advisor experience is a plus. Subaru experience is helpful but isn't required. We're willing to invest in someone who has the right attitude, communication skills, and desire to learn.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who takes ownership of their customers and repair orders and works well as part of a team.

Schedule

Our advisors work a primarily Monday–Friday schedule, with a rotating Saturday approximately once every four weeks. When you work your scheduled Saturday, you'll take a day off during the week. Typically Monday, so you’ll also get a 3 day weekend before your Saturday shift.

This rotation allows us to provide Saturday coverage without requiring our advisors to work every weekend.

Compensation

This is primarily a commission-based position with a base salary, so there is significant earning potential based on individual performance.

We would expect a successful Service Advisor to earn at least $50,000 annually, with strong-performing advisors having the opportunity to earn $100,000+ per year.

Your income is largely driven by your performance, giving motivated advisors the opportunity to directly influence what they earn.
