Job Description

Downer’s New Energy team is looking for an experienced Design Engineer to support the development and delivery of Zero Emission Bus depot conversion projects.

Reporting to the Engineering Lead, you will manage engineering and design inputs across projects from concept through to detailed design. You will coordinate internal and external design resources, manage technical interfaces and help deliver practical, innovative and compliant engineering solutions.

This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of the energy transition, contributing technical expertise to infrastructure projects while collaborating with project teams, clients, design partners and technology providers.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing engineering designs from concept through detailed design
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary design teams and resolving project interfaces
  • Evaluating design options and identifying value engineering opportunities
  • Identifying and managing key design and delivery risks and opportunities
  • Leading design workshops, technical reviews and design review meetings
  • Supporting the planning, scheduling and monitoring of design activities
  • Developing scopes of work for engineering consultants and contractors
  • Providing technical advice and resolving design related challenges
  • Supporting site inspections, testing, commissioning and defect closeout
  • Ensuring Safety in Design principles, applicable legislation, standards and project requirements are embedded throughout design delivery

What we’re looking for

You will be an experienced engineering professional who enjoys working collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to turn complex technical requirements into practical solutions.

You will ideally bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline
  • A minimum of seven years post graduate engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in design management on Design and Construct contracts
  • Experience as a Design Engineer, Project Engineer or within a comparable engineering role
  • Strong knowledge of building technology and construction methodologies
  • Experience managing consultants, local authorities and other external stakeholders
  • Experience preparing and evaluating tender documentation
  • Knowledge of the NCC and relevant Australian Standards
  • Understanding of cost planning, estimating, contract administration, commercial management and project controls
  • Strong project management, communication and problem-solving capabilities
  • Chartered Professional Engineer CPEng status is highly regarded
