The posting

Work with cutting-edge AI technology that helps make the world a safer and more secure place. DroneShield (ASX:DRO) develops market-leading counter-drone solutions used by military organisations, government agencies, airports, critical infrastructure operators, and law enforcement operating in some of the most challenging and high-stakes environments in the world. Employees work at the forefront of innovation, solving complex technical problems and delivering mission-critical capabilities where performance, reliability, and speed matter.

As an ASX200-listed company and the world's only publicly listed pure-play counter-drone business, DroneShield is experiencing rapid growth. Revenue increased from A$57 million in 2024 to more than A$217 million in 2025, supported by record profitability, a global sales pipeline exceeding A$2.5 billion, and annual R&D investment of over A$50 million.

Since 2017, DroneShield has grown from 11 employees to more than 550 globally, with operations across Australia, the United States, Europe, and the Middle East, supporting customers in over 70 countries.

The role is based at DroneShield's Sydney headquarters, which houses corporate, commercial, engineering, and operational teams supporting the company's global growth and customer base.

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to help build the foundations that enable DroneShield's engineering teams to deliver reliable, scalable and secure products. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on Linux platforms, reliability engineering, observability, automation, developer enablement and platform security. You will play a key role in delivering security-focused engineering initiatives across DroneShield's product and internal platforms, helping ensure our systems remain secure, resilient and operationally effective. The role combines deep technical problem solving with a strong engineering mindset. One day you may be troubleshooting low-level Linux performance issues, the next building Go-based tooling, improving platform observability, designing reusable service patterns, or helping teams adopt reliable operational practices.

Success in this role comes from balancing immediate delivery with long-term maintainability, creating solutions that are not only effective but repeatable, scalable and easy for teams to consume.

If you're passionate about solving difficult engineering problems, building platforms and tooling that make other engineers more effective, and establishing patterns that scale across multiple products and teams, this is an opportunity to have a significant impact across DroneShield's technology landscape.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Design, implement and own platform Secure-by-default standards, patterns and engineering best practices
  • Build reusable libraries, services and tooling that can be adopted across multiple products and teams
  • Build Security automation and operational controls
  • Develop automation and internal tooling using Go and other appropriate technologies
  • Troubleshoot complex Linux, infrastructure and application issues across development, test and production environments
  • Design and implement observability solutions including metrics, logging, tracing and alerting
  • Help engineering teams establish meaningful monitoring, operational visibility and reliability practices
  • Build and maintain platform services supporting software development and deployment workflows
  • Partner with engineering teams to identify common challenges and create scalable platform solutions
  • Improve platform reliability, performance and operational efficiency through automation and standardisation
  • Contribute to architecture decisions and technical direction across platform and product teams
  • Document standards, patterns, operational processes and engineering guidance
  • Mentor engineers and promote operational excellence across the organisation

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Strong Linux systems engineering and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), platform engineering or systems engineering
  • Professional software development experience
  • Experience with cloud environments
  • Experience building reusable tooling, libraries or internal developer platforms
  • Experience designing and implementing observability solutions
  • Strong understanding of monitoring, logging, metrics, tracing and alerting practices
  • Experience working with distributed systems and production environments
  • Strong scripting and automation skills
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools
  • Experience supporting engineering teams and driving platform adoption
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts including DNS, routing, firewalls and load balancing
  • Excellent troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Desirable

  • Experience operating Kubernetes platforms
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry or similar observability tooling
  • Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs)
  • Experience with CI/CD or modern software delivery platforms
  • Experience with AWS or hybrid cloud environments
  • Experience supporting edge or disconnected environments
  • Experience within defence, critical infrastructure or highly regulated environments

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
