The Impact You Will Have in This Role

The MCD organization delivers the foundational platforms that power client onboarding, connectivity, entitlements, and access management across DTCC's critical services. Supporting thousands of client interactions daily, MCD enables secure, resilient, and scalable connectivity through APIs, Kafka, MQ, SFTP, and modern integration technologies.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will serve as a hands-on technical leader driving the modernization of enterprise platforms and client integration capabilities. You will help transform legacy architectures into cloud-native, event-driven solutions while shaping engineering standards, influencing technical strategy, and delivering highly resilient systems that support DTCC's long-term technology vision.

This is an opportunity to make a significant impact by advancing platform scalability, operational excellence, developer productivity, and client experience across mission-critical services.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable, cloud-native applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
  • Drive enterprise modernization initiatives by decomposing legacy applications, reducing database-centric business logic, and transitioning to distributed cloud-based solutions.
  • Design and implement large-scale event-driven architectures leveraging Apache Kafka and enterprise messaging technologies.
  • Build and support high-performance REST and SOAP APIs that enable secure and reliable client connectivity.
  • Design, develop, and deploy solutions utilizing AWS services including EC2, S3, SQS, IAM, and related cloud-native capabilities.
  • Define architecture, engineering standards, and modernization roadmaps across multiple initiatives and teams.
  • Lead technical design reviews, architectural governance, and solution evaluations to ensure scalability, resiliency, and maintainability.
  • Improve system performance, reliability, security, observability, and operational excellence across distributed platforms.
  • Champion engineering best practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD), automated testing, code quality, and CI/CD automation.
  • Optimize data access, processing efficiency, and integration patterns across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and distributed systems.
  • Partner closely with Product, Architecture, Platform Engineering, and DevOps teams to deliver business-critical capabilities.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and implement sustainable solutions that reduce operational risk.
  • Identify and address technical debt while driving continuous improvement across the technology ecosystem.
  • Mentor engineers and elevate software craftsmanship, engineering excellence, and technical leadership throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on software engineering experience with demonstrated success leading enterprise-scale application development, architecture, and modernization initiatives.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale distributed systems in complex enterprise environments.
  • Experience leading modernization efforts involving legacy, monolithic, or database-centric platforms.
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, microservices design patterns, and modern software engineering principles.
  • Experience operating in highly regulated, mission-critical, or large-scale enterprise environments.

Talent Needed for Success

  • Expert-level proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and modern object-oriented software development.
  • Deep experience designing, building, and operating microservices-based distributed systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience developing cloud-native applications on AWS.
  • Expertise implementing event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
  • Experience with Redis for caching, performance optimization, and high-throughput processing.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, system integration, scalability, resiliency, security, and performance engineering.
  • Experience with asynchronous processing, distributed messaging, and real-time integration patterns.
  • Experience building and supporting CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
  • Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, data-intensive applications, and enterprise data processing.
  • Experience with observability and monitoring practices across complex distributed systems.

Preferred

  • Experience with Angular or other modern front-end frameworks.
  • Experience with OpenShift, Kubernetes, Docker, or container-based platforms.
  • Experience modernizing mainframe or legacy enterprise applications.
  • Financial services, fintech, capital markets, or other highly regulated industry experience.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted software development tools and engineering productivity platforms.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical strategy and architectural direction across multiple teams and initiatives.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with engineers, architects, product leaders, and executive stakeholders.
  • Proven success mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, drive alignment, and lead complex technology transformation efforts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance innovation, delivery, quality, and risk.
  • Experience building consensus, managing competing priorities, and driving execution across cross-functional organizations.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
