About us

Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, developing innovative products and technologies that are different, better and designed around real user needs. Our Research, Design and Development teams combine design, engineering and manufacturing expertise to take products from early concept through to production.

About the role

As a Design Engineer, Category, you will support the design, development and delivery of innovative Dyson products and technologies. Combining hands-on engineering with project ownership, you will work from concept generation and prototyping through detailed design, validation, manufacturing readiness and production.

You will support the development of a new-to-Dyson product category, working closely with Singapore-based teams and partners in China. The role offers exposure to broad product scope and requires strong coordination across Dyson and partner engineering teams.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary Dyson teams, partners, suppliers and manufacturing sites across Asia. Frequent regional travel is required to support design reviews, technical problem-solving, validation and key manufacturing milestones.

Key responsibilities

· Develop products, systems and features from concept through design, validation, industrialisation and production.

· Translate user, commercial and technical needs into clear requirements, specifications and engineering deliverables.

· Take ownership of defined systems, assemblies, product features or technical work packages.

· Create and evaluate concepts through prototyping, analysis, testing and structured problem-solving.

· Balance performance, user experience, quality, safety, reliability, cost, manufacturability and timing.

· Identify technical risks, investigate failures and support effective root-cause resolution.

· Participate in design reviews, technical reviews, prototype builds and project milestone assessments.

· Coordinate activities, risks, decisions and deliverables across multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.

· Communicate technical information and project progress clearly to engineering, project and senior stakeholders.

New Category 5 (NC5) focus

· Support the development of new-category products, systems and features from early definition through manufacturing readiness.

· Create clear specifications and work packages for Partners and track delivery against agreed requirements.

· Review partner-generated designs and engineering evidence, constructively challenging assumptions where required.

· Coordinate product integration, design maturity, technical risks and issue resolution across Dyson and partner teams.

Partner collaboration

· Translate Dyson product requirements and design intent into clear technical briefs and work packages for partners.

· Review partner design proposals, technical evidence and deliverables against agreed requirements.

· Coordinate technical activities and issue resolution across Dyson teams, partners, suppliers and manufacturing sites.

· Support design reviews, prototype builds, validation activities and production trials at partner locations.

· Maintain clear ownership and documentation of technical decisions, deliverables, risks and actions.

Skills and experience

· Practical experience in engineering or product development across multiple stages of the product lifecycle.

· Broad exposure to multidisciplinary engineering, such as mechanical design, mechatronics, electronics, software, systems engineering, testing or manufacturing.

· Hands-on experience with prototyping, engineering testing, test-rig development or product integration.

· Ability to translate requirements into practical, robust and manufacturable engineering solutions.

· Understanding of design for manufacture and assembly principles.

· Experience using engineering evidence and data to support technical decisions.

· Ability to manage defined deliverables, priorities, risks and project milestones.

· Strong communication and collaboration skills, including working with external development partners.

· A curious, adaptable and hands-on approach to engineering challenges.

About you

· Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electromechanical Engineering, Product Design Engineering, General Engineering, Software Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Systems Engineering or a related discipline.

· Relevant work-based, apprenticeship, industrial or professional engineering experience.

· Experience across more than one stage of product development, from concept to production.

· Demonstrated ownership of a project, product area or technical work package.

· Comfortable working within a partner-led development environment.

· Able to operate effectively across cultures, organisations and time zones.

· Willing and able to travel frequently across Asia and occasionally internationally.

· Comfortable undertaking regular or extended business travel during critical stages of product development, validation and industrialisation.

Travel requirements

This is a regionally connected role requiring frequent travel across Asia and occasional international travel. Travel frequency and duration will vary according to project needs and may include travel at short notice or extended periods at partner and manufacturing locations during critical project phases.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
