About Earth Angels
Earth Angels Home Care is dedicated to providing high-quality, personalized home care services that enhance the well-being and satisfaction of our clients. We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and clinically skilled LPN, Caregiver Manager (Retention & Field Operations Lead) to join our team in Halifax. This role is crucial in ensuring seamless service delivery, building a safe, competent, and sustainable caregiver workforce, and upholding our commitment to excellence within the region.
Operating as a dedicated Caregiver Advocate and Engagement Strategist, you will lead our 90-day onboarding framework, clinical competency development, EVV/payroll accuracy, and restorative employee relations - creating a psychologically safe work culture that minimizes burnout and keeps annual turnover below 30%.
Role Overview
Your responsibilities begin the moment a caregiver transitions from recruitment into onboarding, continuing through orientation, first client assignment, competency development, field oversight, routine employment, recognition, injury triage/management, and career progression. As an LPN, you bring clinical authority and practical nursing leadership to frontline operations, ensuring caregivers understand expectations, operate safely within their non-medical scope of practice, and receive immediate support when working independently in client homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Retention & Nurse-Led Engagement: Execute a structured 90-day onboarding roadmap. Conduct regular check-ins, on-site field visits, stay interviews, and quarterly meetings. Organize caregiver socials and lead recognition programs (e.g., "Kudos to Caregivers" and reward incentives).
- Clinical Competency & Training Oversight: Lead group orientations and prepare onboarding kits. Oversee continuing education platforms (Care Academy, Medication Awareness, Food Handler, WHMIS, First Aid). Validate caregiver competence beyond online certificates using hands-on demonstrations, clinical scenario discussions, and field observations.
- Care Plan Translation & Scope Management: Review clinical care plans with caregivers prior to first shifts to ensure full task clarity. Clarify boundaries between non-medical care and clinical scope, conduct immediate post-shift debriefs, and coordinate logistics for live-in caregivers.
- Employee Relations & Restorative Mediation: Address staff, client, or family conflicts using restorative mediation. Handle progressive discipline, performance evaluations, and wage raise recommendations with clinical objectivity, empathy, and fairness.
- Payroll, EVV & Regulatory Compliance: Monitor Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) clocking accuracy to eliminate payroll errors. Process time-off requests, Records of Employment (ROEs), and maintain flawless compliance with Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) guidelines for international staff.
- Clinical Incident Response & WCB Management: Provide immediate triage and direction for field incidents and work-related injuries. Conduct objective, non-punitive root-cause investigations, maintain confidential injury records, manage Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) claims, and oversee safe Return-to-Work (RTW) plans.
Core Competencies & Qualifications
- Licensure: Active, good-standing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
- Clinical & Home Care Experience: 3+ years of clinical practical nursing experience, preferably in home care, community care, or senior living leadership.
- Retention Leadership: Demonstrated ability to execute workforce retention frameworks (90-day touchpoints, peer mentoring, recognition programs).
- Administrative & Technical Precision: Proficiency with Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), payroll file preparation, and active credential tracking.
- Regulatory & Safety Mastery: Deep working knowledge of Nova Scotia WCB protocols, Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), provincial labor standards, and international worker pathways (NSNP) is an asset.
- Interpersonal Mastery: Exceptional active listening, clinical judgment, cultural humility, de-escalation, and restorative mediation skills.
