Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Firmware Engineer to develop, test, debug, and maintain firmware for embedded devices and connected hardware products. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in embedded systems, programming fundamentals, and hardware-software integration. Experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and CSS may be useful for developing supporting web interfaces, device dashboards, and configuration tools.
This role is suitable for entry-level candidates and experienced engineers who are eager to build reliable firmware solutions and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain firmware for embedded devices and hardware platforms.
- Assist in developing low-level software for microcontrollers and embedded systems.
- Debug firmware issues and investigate hardware-software integration problems.
- Write scripts and utilities to support firmware testing, automation, and diagnostics.
- Develop web-based dashboards and device configuration interfaces using JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and CSS when required.
- Integrate embedded devices with APIs, cloud services, and monitoring platforms.
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, debugging, and system validation.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, software developers, QA teams, and product managers.
- Participate in code reviews, Agile ceremonies, and technical design discussions.
- Maintain firmware documentation, test procedures, and technical specifications.
- Optimize software reliability, performance, memory usage, and power consumption.
- Follow coding standards, security practices, and engineering quality guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 0–5 years of experience in firmware development, embedded software, or related engineering work.
- Knowledge of programming fundamentals and debugging techniques.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and CSS, or willingness to develop these skills.
- Understanding of software development, testing, and version control using Git.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a hybrid engineering environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of C or C++ for embedded programming.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, embedded Linux, or real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Understanding of communication protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, or USB.
- Experience with firmware debugging tools, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, IoT systems, and device connectivity.
- Exposure to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies.
- Personal projects, internships, or academic projects involving embedded systems are welcome.
Salary Range
Estimated annual base salary by experience:
- Entry-Level (0–1 year): $75,000–$85,000
- Junior Engineer (1–3 years): $85,000–$100,000
- Experienced Engineer (3–5 years): $100,000–$120,000
Compensation varies by location, qualifications, technical skills, and employer.
Benefits
Depending on the employer, benefits may include:
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- Paid time off and company holidays
