The posting

D-NETWORK is looking for an IT Engineering Manager for an international medical technology company based in Mechelen.

The Opportunity :

Our client is looking for an Engineering Manager – Product Platform to strengthen the foundations of its platform engineering organisation. You will lead a group of engineering contributors and make sure the underlying software platforms stay reliable, compliant and ready for future growth.

You will manage Tech Leads and Software Engineers and keep the different teams and functions aligned. You are responsible for the health, stability and evolution of the platforms, balancing people leadership, technical direction and delivery quality. In a regulated medical device setting, you will work closely with engineering, verification, quality, security and regulatory colleagues to deliver solutions that are both innovative and compliant.

This role suits a leader who pairs technical credibility with strong people skills and enjoys complex, cross-functional environments.

Key Responsibilities

Build and grow the engineering team

  • Foster an engineering culture centred on dependable delivery, quality and continuous improvement
  • Coach and develop Tech Leads and engineers, building leadership depth and succession readiness
  • Set clear priorities and structured leadership routines in a safe, inclusive team environment
  • Drive hiring, onboarding and long-term capability planning

Guide technical direction and platform integrity

  • Define and evolve the technical roadmap for the platform components
  • Contribute to architecture and design governance together with the Tech Leads
  • Stay close to the most complex technical challenges and risk areas
  • Promote modern practices such as secure coding, CI/CD and automation

Align teams and deliveries

  • Coordinate software, embedded, verification, quality and regulatory teams
  • Manage dependencies, integration points and release-readiness milestones
  • Simplify the architecture and improve platform interfaces and boundaries

Lead through Tech Leads and strengthen governance

  • Lead a group of Tech Leads across platform domains, with clear ownership and accountability
  • Set up solid governance routines (design reviews, decision logs, roadmap alignment)
  • Embed the discipline required in regulated environments: traceability, testability and reproducibility

Partner with stakeholders

  • Work with R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Delivery colleagues
  • Report clearly on platform health, risks and progress
  • Keep technical debt and defects visible and properly prioritised

Champion quality and compliance

  • Ensure compliance with medical device regulations and the company’s quality management system
  • Build quality into everyday engineering practice
  • Balance agile delivery with regulatory rigour

Your Profile

Required

  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline (or equivalent). For degrees obtained outside Belgium, a formal recognition process may be part of the hiring journey, and support will be provided
  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager leading software teams in complex environments
  • Strong experience leading through Tech Leads
  • Ability to build leadership depth and scalable team structures
  • Solid technical background, able to take part in architecture and design decisions
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across diverse functions

Preferred

  • Experience in medical device software or other regulated industries
  • Background in platform engineering, middleware or shared components
  • Experience driving engineering maturity, CI/CD and automation
  • Track record of improving quality, reliability and engineering standards

Languages

  • Fluent professional English (spoken and written) is mandatory
  • Dutch and/or French is an advantage but not required

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
