Maranatha Christian School is an established, high-performing IEB school with a proud record of academic excellence, including a 100% matric pass rate. As we transition to Riverfields Christian Academy, we remain committed to providing exceptional education within a nurturing Christian environment where academic achievement, character formation and spiritual development are equally valued.

The FET Physical Sciences Educator plays a critical role in maintaining and advancing the school's high academic standards. The educator is responsible for delivering rigorous, CAPS-aligned Physical Sciences instruction in Grades 10–12, preparing learners thoroughly for IEB examinations, and developing the scientific knowledge, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills required for success in tertiary education.

The ideal candidate is an academically strong and experienced IEB Physical Sciences teacher with exceptional subject knowledge, a proven record of achieving excellent examination results, and the ability to inspire learners to strive for academic excellence. The educator must demonstrate a thorough understanding of both Physics and Chemistry and be capable of challenging high-achieving learners while providing effective academic support to those requiring additional assistance.

We are looking for a dedicated, inspiring and results-driven educator who takes pride in academic achievement, maintains high professional standards and is committed to contributing to the school's Christian ethos and culture of excellence.

FET Physical Sciences Educator responsibilities are:

Curriculum Delivery

  • Plan and deliver high-quality, CAPS-aligned Physical Sciences lessons for Grades 10–12, meeting the academic standards and assessment expectations of the IEB.
  • Demonstrate exceptional subject knowledge in both Physics and Chemistry.
  • Ensure comprehensive curriculum coverage, appropriate pacing and thorough preparation for IEB examinations.
  • Develop learners' scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, mathematical application, problem-solving and independent learning skills.
  • Plan and conduct meaningful practical investigations and experiments that develop scientific inquiry and application.
  • Challenge academically strong learners through enrichment and higher-order questioning while supporting learners who require additional intervention.
  • Integrate appropriate technology, simulations and innovative teaching strategies to enhance conceptual understanding.

Learner Assessment and Support

  • Develop and administer rigorous formal and informal assessments aligned with CAPS, IEB requirements and the school's assessment and moderation policies.
  • Set assessments of an appropriate academic standard that prepare learners for the demands of IEB examinations.
  • Maintain accurate assessment records, markbooks, moderation documentation and learner progress reports.
  • Analyse learner performance to identify academic gaps, monitor progress and implement targeted interventions.
  • Provide timely, constructive and meaningful feedback that enables learners to improve their performance.
  • Prepare learners systematically for internal examinations, practical assessments and final IEB examinations.
  • Develop effective examination techniques, scientific writing skills, accuracy and confidence in responding to complex questions.
  • Work collaboratively with subject leadership and academic support structures to ensure that every learner is supported in reaching their academic potential.

Classroom Management

  • Establish a structured, disciplined, respectful and academically stimulating classroom environment.
  • Maintain high expectations for learner preparation, participation, responsibility and academic achievement.
  • Promote intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, perseverance and a strong work ethic.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment during theoretical and practical lessons, ensuring adherence to laboratory safety procedures.
  • Establish positive professional relationships with learners while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Model Christian character, integrity, fairness, respect and personal accountability.
  • Support learners' personal development and wellbeing in accordance with the school's pastoral care and safeguarding procedures.

Academic Excellence and IEB Examination Readiness

  • Maintain a strong focus on excellent IEB examination results and continuous improvement in learner achievement.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of IEB assessment standards, examination expectations and the application of higher-order cognitive skills.
  • Use examination analysis, past papers and performance trends to strengthen teaching and assessment practices.
  • Implement structured revision, enrichment and academic intervention programmes.
  • Develop learners' confidence and competence in both the theoretical and practical components of Physical Sciences.
  • Prepare learners for the academic demands of university-level studies in science, engineering, medicine and related fields.
  • Contribute actively to the school's established culture of academic excellence and high achievement.

Parental and Community Engagement

  • Communicate professionally and proactively with parents regarding academic performance, learner progress and areas requiring support.
  • Participate in parent meetings, academic consultations, school events and relevant extracurricular activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, Subject Heads, Phase Heads and school management to maintain high academic standards.
  • Contribute positively to the Christian ethos, spiritual development and character formation of learners.
  • Participate in the broader life of the school, including appropriate cultural, spiritual, service and co-curricular activities.

Professional Development

  • Participate actively in subject meetings, collaborative planning, professional development and academic improvement initiatives.
  • Remain informed about developments in Physical Sciences education, CAPS requirements, IEB assessment practices and examination expectations.
  • Engage in reflective teaching practice, lesson observations and continuous professional improvement.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment moderation, academic quality assurance and departmental development.
  • Maintain high standards of professionalism, administration, accountability and ethical conduct.

FET Physical Sciences Educator requirements are:

  • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) specialising in FET Physical Sciences OR a relevant BSc degree with a PGCE specialising in Physical Sciences.
  • Current SACE registration and a valid police clearance certificate.
  • Proven experience teaching Physical Sciences in Grades 10–12, preferably within an IEB school.
  • A strong track record of excellent Grade 12 Physical Sciences examination results.
  • Exceptional subject knowledge in both Physics and Chemistry, including practical laboratory instruction.
  • Thorough understanding of the CAPS curriculum, IEB assessment standards, moderation requirements and examination preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach academically demanding content and develop higher-order thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong planning, assessment, learner performance analysis and academic intervention skills.
  • Effective classroom management and the ability to maintain high academic expectations.
  • Technologically proficient with the ability to integrate digital teaching tools, simulations and educational technology.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, administrative and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and challenge learners to achieve their full academic potential.
  • A professional, dependable, collaborative and results-oriented approach to teaching.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
