POSITION SUMMARY

The Software Development Engineer I develops tests, documents, deploys, and maintains software solutions for Manufacturing Engineering. The role applies to software engineering fundamentals to well-defined operational problems involving user interfaces, Python services, databases, analytics, manufacturing data, and system integrations.

Working within established architecture, engineering standards, and review processes, the engineer owns well-defined deliverables, investigates technical problems, and contributes to reliable solutions used in an aerospace manufacturing environment. Guidance is available for unfamiliar technologies, complex integrations, and production-impacting decisions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Software development and testing
  • Develop, test, and maintain well-defined features for user-facing applications and backend services; correct defects; and support-controlled production maintenance activities.
  • Develop clear and accessible interfaces using established frontend patterns, user requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Create and update APIs, data-processing functions, and background tasks using established architecture, coding standards, and peer review.
  • Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, resolve review feedback, and document implemented behavior.
  • Data and manufacturing systems
  • Write SQL queries, perform basic data analysis, and implement approved changes to relational data models for manufacturing applications.
  • Develop and maintain defined components for data ingestion, validation, transformation, and traceability from documents, spreadsheets, structured files, equipment, or telemetry sources.
  • Develop and support defined integrations among manufacturing applications, databases, enterprise systems, and equipment interfaces using documented requirements, approved data contracts, and established security controls.
  • Analyze software logs, data quality issues, and representative examples; identify probable causes; and escalate issues that require broader architectural or production decisions.
  • Applied analytics and AI
  • Develop or integrate defined analytics, classification, anomaly detection, retrieval, or AI-enabled components when included in the assigned project, with appropriate technical review.
  • Evaluate outputs against defined acceptance criteria, document limitations and test results, and route uncertain or high-impact results for review.
  • Follow established controls for data privacy, access, model or dataset versioning, and reproducibility.
  • Delivery and collaboration
  • Participate in technical discovery and translate defined requirements or user stories into development tasks, acceptance criteria, estimates, and implementation plans for assigned work.
  • Apply established practices for source control, testing, accessibility, security, deployment, configuration management, and controlled changes.
  • Communicate progress, technical findings, risks, and support needs clearly to engineers, operators, and domain specialists.
  • Prepare concise technical and operating documentation for the solutions developed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, completed by the position start date.
  • Demonstrated programming experience through coursework, capstone projects, internships, research, or professional work using Python or another object-oriented programming language.
  • Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript and web application fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, relational database concepts, and common data structures.
  • Familiarity with Git or another version-control system.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, client/server applications, debugging, and fundamental software testing concepts.
  • Ability to independently progress on well-defined tasks, ask for support when needed, learn unfamiliar technologies, document solutions, and collaborate with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe handling of company and production data.

Desired:

  • Coursework, capstone, internship, research, or project experience with React, TypeScript, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, continuous integration, Docker, or automated build tools.
  • Exposure to data pipelines, data visualization, machine learning, embeddings, large language model APIs, or retrieval-augmented generation.
  • Exposure to C#/.NET, Electron, hardware interfaces, serial communication, simulators, telemetry, MES, or other manufacturing systems.
  • Interest in aerospace, manufacturing operations, process improvement, predictive maintenance, or industrial digitalization.

Technology Exposure:

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
