This is an L3 opportunity. Successful candidates often come from senior engineering roles and are experienced in leading complex projects, mentoring peers, and making architectural contributions across teams.

About the role

At Envoy, the Response team builds technology that helps organizations protect their people, stay ahead of emerging threats, and communicate effectively during critical situations. We're solving complex, real-world problems where reliability, speed, and intelligent decision-making matter.

As a Senior Fullstack Engineer on the Response team, you'll work on some of Envoy's most technically challenging and impactful products. You'll help build and scale our Threat Intelligence platform, which processes large volumes of real-time signals from thousands of sources, uses AI to identify and enrich relevant threats, and helps organizations understand potential risks to their people and workplaces. You'll tackle challenging engineering problems involving distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, geospatial intelligence, and AI-powered decision-making.

You'll also build our Emergency Notifications platform, enabling organizations to communicate critical information to employees and visitors quickly and reliably across multiple channels when it matters most. These are systems where performance, scalability, and reliability have a direct impact on people's safety.

This is a backend-focused fullstack role. You'll spend much of your time designing scalable services, building distributed systems, and solving complex backend challenges, while also owning customer-facing experiences using React. We're looking for engineers with strong backend fundamentals who are comfortable moving across the stack and taking end-to-end ownership of the products they build.

You'll have the opportunity to influence technical architecture, apply AI to meaningful product problems, and work closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to bring ambitious ideas to life.

This on-site position requires 4 days a week (Monday through Thursday) in our San Francisco HQ office.

You will

- Build and scale real-time threat intelligence systems that ingest, process, classify, and enrich signals from numerous data sources to surface actionable threats to organizations.

- Solve challenging distributed systems problems, including high-throughput event processing, data deduplication, and reliable asynchronous workflows.

- Apply AI to real-world engineering problems, building intelligent workflows that help identify relevant threats, reduce noise, and deliver actionable insights.

- Build and evolve emergency notification systems that deliver critical communications reliably and at scale across channels such as SMS, email, mobile push, and Slack.

- Design, build, and operate scalable backend services, APIs, and data models using technologies such as Kotlin, Kafka, Postgres, AWS, and OpenSearch.

- Build intuitive, performant customer-facing experiences using React and TypeScript, taking ownership of features across the full stack.

- Drive technical design and architecture decisions, balancing scalability, reliability, performance, and engineering simplicity.

- Own features and systems end-to-end, from technical design and implementation to production operations, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

- Partner closely with Product, Design, and other Engineering teams to translate complex customer problems into simple, effective solutions.

- Raise the engineering bar through thoughtful code reviews, technical mentorship, and improvements to engineering practices.

You have

- A BS or MS in Computer Science or a related technical field

- 7+ years of experience building and operating production software, with strong backend engineering expertise and experience working across the full stack.

- Strong programming fundamentals and experience building backend services using languages such as Kotlin, or Java.

- Experience designing scalable distributed systems, microservices, and APIs, with a solid understanding of system architecture and engineering tradeoffs.

- Experience with relational databases such as Postgres, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance considerations.

- Experience with asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures, or messaging systems such as Kafka.

- Working proficiency with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, and the ability to independently build and ship frontend features.

- A strong product mindset and the ability to balance technical excellence with delivering meaningful customer value.

- Experience driving technical projects independently, navigating ambiguity, and collaborating across Engineering, Product, and Design.

Nice to have

- Experience building AI-powered applications or integrating LLMs into production systems.

- Experience with high-throughput data pipelines, stream processing, or search technologies such as OpenSearch.

- Experience with geospatial data, real-time alerting, or mission-critical communication systems.

You'll get

- Work on problems that matter. Build products that help organizations protect their people, understand emerging threats, and respond effectively to emergencies.

- Solve technically challenging problems. Work on distributed systems, real-time data pipelines, high-scale notification infrastructure, and complex backend architectures.

- Build with AI. Go beyond traditional software development and apply AI to real-world challenges in threat detection, intelligence, and response.

- Meaningful ownership and autonomy. Drive major technical initiatives, influence architectural direction, and own impactful products from design to production.

- Fullstack opportunities with backend depth. Build sophisticated backend infrastructure while also delivering the customer-facing experiences powered by your systems.

- A collaborative engineering environment. Work with talented engineers and close Product and Design partners who value technical excellence, learning, and shipping great products.

- Competitive compensation, benefits, and opportunities for professional growth.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
