Head of Engineering (.NET/Azure) Epona Denmark (Vejle)
Introduction
Do you want to lead 10 engineers building a Legal-Tech SaaS platform on .NET and Azure?
At Epona in Vejle, you will lead the engineering organization behind our Legal-Tech SaaS platform, used by more than 800 law firms and corporate legal departments worldwide. Our platform is built with .NET 10, C#, Azure services, REST APIs and semantic search.
You will combine people leadership with accountability for reliable delivery, engineering quality and continuous improvement, while helping Epona transition from its existing solution to the next-generation SaaS platform.
Your teams
You will be responsible for 10 engineers in Vejle, organized in three teams:
• Two agile product development teams, one working on our new SaaS platform and one on the on-premise solution it replaces
• One platform team of two DevOps engineers, owning CI/CD, infrastructure (Terraform) and cloud operations
How we work with AI
AI is part of how we work, both as product capabilities and as tooling in our engineering workflow. We use Claude as a coding companion to accelerate product delivery and improve quality. We expect you to drive effective and critical use of AI tools across your teams.
Promote responsible AI adoption, including security, code review, testing and appropriate human oversight. Assess its impact on delivery speed, quality and developer effectiveness rather than measuring usage alone.
Your role
As the Head of Engineering, your primary focus is on people leadership and delivering results through your teams. You bring a strong technical background that enables you to challenge technical decisions, contribute to architectural discussions and ensure engineering quality. You report to the CTO.
• Lead, coach and develop 10 engineers through 1:1s, feedback and career development
• Set clear expectations, provide regular performance feedback, address underperformance and develop succession and capability plans.
• Make AI tools like Claude part of how the teams work, and measure the effect on delivery
• Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery with Product Management, including AI-powered capabilities in our platform
• Translate agreed product priorities into realistic engineering commitments; make risks, dependencies, trade-offs and capacity constraints visible early.
• Use relevant indicators such as lead time, delivery predictability, defect trends, reliability and incident resolution to drive improvement, not reporting for its own sake.
• Drive technical direction and engineering quality together with architects and senior engineers
• Strengthen automated testing, security, scalability, maintainability, CI/CD and management of technical debt.
• Collaborate with international colleagues and shape team structure and ways of working across product and platform teams
• Partner with Operations and Support to identify recurring customer issues, reduce avoidable incidents and feed insights into engineering and product improvements.
• Communicate decisions, progress and risks transparently and follow through on agreed actions across teams.
• Owns how and how well we deliver, including technical trade-offs and delivery commitments. The Project Manager owns what we deliver and why. Timelines are agreed jointly by trading off scope, time and quality, with escalation to CPO and CTO.
• Stasy technically involved through occasional code reviews and technical contributions, while playing a key role in architectural decisions alongside architects and senior engineers. The primary focus remains on leading the engineering teams rather than individual coding.
Measuring success
Success will be measured through improvements in AI adoption and impact, engineering delivery and quality, team engagement and retention, and collaboration with Product Management and Operations.
Within the first 60 days, you will establish baselines and agree measurable 6- and 12-month improvement targets with the CTO.
How you lead – Epona values
Epona’s five values guide how we lead, make decisions and work together. The Engineering Manager is expected to demonstrate them through visible behaviour, not just words.
• One Team — Build a shared identity across Engineering, Product, Operations and Support. Break down silos, actively help colleagues, and put shared outcomes ahead of “them and us” thinking.
• Customer First — Make quality and delivery central to engineering decisions. Understand customer impact, address recurring issues and prioritise reliable outcomes for customers.
• Transparency — Explain the why behind decisions, priorities and trade-offs. Communicate progress, risks and changes openly so teams understand both the direction and the reasoning.
• Responsible — Deliver on promises, take ownership of mistakes, and make responsibilities and follow-up explicit. Combine flexibility and autonomy with clear accountability.
• Respect — Respect cultural differences and individual perspectives. Give feedback respectfully, invite constructive challenge and build an inclusive, supportive team environment.
