Placement Product Designer

How You'll Support Our Mission

We're looking for a human-centred Product designer who loves to build simple-to-understand and trustworthy tools which turn complexity into clarity and help make our user's lives easier. As a Placement Product Designer, you'll be supporting the ESO Product team to create software products that improve community health and safety outcomes through the power of data. Our software is used by thousands of fire departments, EMS teams, and hospital environments. You will help us solve our user's needs by bringing ideas to life, through empathetic research, analysis, ideation, design, and measurement.

We're especially interested in designers who take ownership of their own growth.

You Should

  • Have a passion for healthcare and making a difference
  • Be full of curiosity
  • Be a natural problem solver
  • Be a critical thinker
  • Have empathy for our users and a desire to learn as much as possible about their needs in various scenarios, environments and areas of the world
  • Have a desire to build accessible interfaces
  • Be comfortable working independently and knowing when to seek out the right support, rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Be able to describe a specific time you tried a new tool, technique, or AI-assisted method and adapted your approach based on what you learned, rather than simply describing yourself as a fast learner.

What You'll Be Doing — the Day to Day

  • Researching and supporting the early-stage assessment of incoming product ideas and user feedback, before they move into active design and development work
  • Using product analytics to understand feature adoption and the broader user experience alongside qualitative research
  • Through user research and usability testing, understanding the people who use our products
  • Ideating and creating experiments which help you explore how to solve problems and test variations with users
  • Helping to drive our team forward by actively contributing to and maintaining our design system, which contains our component library and accessibility documentation
  • Working within our product design team to support and improve how we solve system and platform wide challenges, ease pain points, and identify similar needs across our user journeys
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with your colleagues to gain and share user insight, foster innovative thinking, ideate, and prioritise as a team
  • Measuring the user experience and communicating informed opinions about areas of opportunity
  • Using AI-assisted prototyping and research tools to test ideas quickly, and adapting your workflow as better tools and methods become available
  • Taking part in how the team evaluates and adopts new design and research tools, rather than only using whatever is already in place

Who You Are — Essential Requirements

  • At least two years of a third-level qualification in a UX / Digital Product Design / Or Interaction design discipline by June 2026
  • While the position is mostly remote, you must still be able to come to the Belfast office when needed for team in-person meetings / collaboration etc
  • Experience using AI Prototyping tools (or similar tools such as Figma)
  • Have a strong passion for Product and UX design, and can point to a specific time you changed your approach after learning something new
  • Care deeply about applying human-centred design thinking which is inclusive to all
  • Take ownership over your work, tasks, and objectives, and work well independently
  • Understand that your work is also part of a team's objectives, and work hard to build a strong team bond
  • Enjoy communicating your ideas based on research using Miro or Dovetail or similar tools to visually share understanding during collaborative ideation sessions
  • Understand the theory of qualitative and quantitative UX research methods, their limitations, and when to apply them
  • Be evidence-driven in your decision-making and understand the importance of applying success measures to your design solution
  • Enjoy collaborating with our technical teams on the feasibility of your design solutions, researching with our users to ensure desirability, and working jointly with the rest of the business to create the most viable solutions that drive outcomes
  • Be comfortable trying new AI-assisted design or research tools as part of the work
  • Be a trustworthy, self-directed teammate while working remotely, holding yourself to a high standard on the work your team entrusts to you, and communicating progress proactively so the team always has a clear, confident read on what you're driving forward

Please upload your most recent portfolio to the cover letter section of the application.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
