The posting

Wat doet de commissie? De commissie van toezicht is bij wet ingesteld en houdt onafhankelijk toezicht op de gang van zaken binnen een justitiële inrichting. PI Nieuwersluis huisvest ongeveer 240 vrouwelijke gedetineerden. De inrichting is zowel een Huis van Bewaring als een gevangenis. Daarnaast heeft de PI per 1 oktober 2026 ook een Beperkt Beveiligde Afdeling (BBA) voor mannelijke gedetineerden. De belangrijkste werkzaamheden van de commissie zijn: − toezicht houden op de wijze van tenuitvoerlegging van vrijheidsbeneming in de penitentiaire inrichting. Daarbij adviseert de commissie de directie van de inrichting, de Raad voor Strafrechtstoepassing en Jeugdbescherming en in voorkomende gevallen de Minister van Justitie en Veiligheid; − kennis nemen en behandelen van grieven van gedetineerden en voor zover mogelijk bemiddelen; − behandeling van klaagschriften van gedetineerden. Bij wet is vastgelegd dat de commissie in elk geval bestaat uit een rechter, een advocaat, een arts/psychiater en ook dat een deskundige uit de kring van het maatschappelijk werk lid is van de commissie. Daarnaast moet de commissie zoveel mogelijk een afspiegeling vormen van de samenleving. De commissie bestaat momenteel uit elf leden. De leden van de commissie worden door de minister van Justitie en Veiligheid benoemd voor de duur van vijf jaar (tussentijds ontslag is mogelijk) met de mogelijkheid tot herbenoeming. Werkzaamheden De commissie vergadert maandelijks op de tweede woensdagmiddag van de maand in aanwezigheid van de directie. De leden van de commissie zijn drie à vier keer per jaar voor een periode van twee weken maandcommissaris (feitelijke tijdsbesteding is ongeveer vier dagdelen in twee weken). De maandcommissaris neemt kennis van de grieven van gedetineerden, bemiddelt zo nodig om tot een oplossing te komen en stelt zich door persoonlijke contacten met de gedetineerden regelmatig op de hoogte van de gang van zaken in de i...
