Je onderzoek verbindt laboratoriumproeven met geavanceerde CFD simulaties. CoastalFOAM en OpenFOAM staan centraal in deze opdracht. Met jouw resultaten krijgen we meer inzicht in golfimpact en golfoverslag bij waterbouwkundige constructies. Samen met experts en medestudenten overbrug je de afstand tussen theoretische simulaties en toepassingen in de praktijk. Binnen Tender & Engineering werkt het Infra Marine team aan projecten waar de zee en het land samenkomen. Voor je afstudeeronderzoek sluit je aan bij het TKI OFCOARSE project. Je onderzoekt de meerwaarde van 3D numerieke modellering voor de kustwaterbouw. Van Oord ontwikkelt haar CFD expertise met CoastalFOAM, een op OpenFOAM gebaseerde numerieke golfgoot. Binnen het project werken Van Oord, TU Delft, Deltares en Haskoning samen om 2D en 3D simulaties te valideren aan de hand van fysieke modelproeven. Je onderzoek richt zich op golfoverslag, impactdrukken en belastingen op constructies. Zo verbind je geavanceerde modellering direct met waterbouwkundige toepassingen in de praktijk. De kern van je afstudeeronderzoek is het vergelijken van 2D en 3D CoastalFOAM simulaties met metingen uit het laboratorium. Verschillen in golfgedrag en belastingen laten zien waar 3D modellering extra waarde biedt. Je kijkt daarbij specifiek naar laterale stroming, turbulentie en energiedissipatie. De meetgegevens uit de laboratoriumproeven vormen de basis voor de vergelijking. Jouw bevindingen dragen bij aan het bredere TKI OFCOARSE project en helpen kennis ontwikkelen die toepasbaar is in de kustwaterbouw.
