As a DFM (Design for Manufacturing) Specialist, you will help develop robust, waterproof mechanical hardware that can withstand years of use on farms and is suitable for larger production volumes. What are you going to do? As a DFM (Design for Manufacturing) Specialist at Collie, you will focus on the manufacturability, durability and reliability of the mechanical hardware behind the smart collar. Particular attention goes to injection-moulded housings and design choices that work in production and continue to perform after years of use on farms. You will use CAD designs, material selections, prototypes and failures observed in the field to improve each version of the product, working closely with testing colleagues, engineers and external partners specialising in injection moulding, toolmaking and production. Tasks and responsibilities: - Improve the housing and other mechanical components for injection moulding - Select plastics and other materials based on durability, performance, manufacturability and cost - Assess production processes, considering technical and commercial trade-offs - Develop the current design into an even more mass produceable product. - Advise on geometry and design choices from a DFM perspective - Challenge suppliers and toolmakers on technical decisions - Develop and evaluate prototypes and successive design iterations - Work with testing colleagues and engineers to turn failures observed in the field into improved designs The offer Collie offers an entrepreneurial environment where your decisions have a direct, visible impact on the product.
