Als onderzoeker verkeersdelicten heb je een veelzijdige baan en kom je te werken in een professioneel en veelzijdig team. Je voert zelfstandig of in teamverband onderzoek uit naar complexe verkeersdelicten. Dit doe je ter plaatse bij een verkeersdelict of -ongeval en achteraf op een onderzoekslocatie. Bij het begin van je dienst bespreek je samen met je collega's wat er de afgelopen dienst is voorgevallen. Dan komt het verzoek van de coördinator om samen met je collega naar een ernstig verkeersdelict te gaan. Hierbij zijn een vrachtauto en drie personenauto's betrokken. In één van de personenauto's zit een overleden persoon achter het stuur. De bestuurders van de andere personenauto's worden door de brandweer uit hun voertuig bevrijd. Al rijdend naar de plaats delict bespreken jij en je collega hoe jullie het onderzoek gaan aanpakken en verdelen de taken. Daar aangekomen zie je de betrokken voertuigen verspreid over de plaats delict. Je ziet brokstukken en sporen op het wegdek die de toedracht van wat er gebeurd is kunnen verklaren. Je markeert deze sporen en legt de aangetroffen situatie vast met behulp van moderne geavanceerde apparatuur. Ondertussen is jouw collega in het wrak van de vrachtauto gekropen om de bestanden van de digitale tachograaf te downloaden. Een andere collega belt je met de vraag of er al iets bekend is over de gereden snelheid. Met de bestanden die gedownload zijn, kun jij direct een indicatie geven als antwoord op deze vraag. Vervolgens maak je afspraken met de forensisch arts en de brandweer over hoe je het dodelijk slachtoffer uit het voertuig gaat bevrijden.
