Het Limburgs Landschap Beleef de burlende edelherten in het Weerterbos dinsdag 25 augustus 2026 Het is weer bijna bronsttijd voor de edelherten in het Weerterbos. Een unieke periode waarbij de mannelijke edelherten op indrukwekkende wijze luid roepend van zich laten horen om andere mannetjes te imponeren. Dat noemen we burlen. Het is een onvergetelijke beleving om dat bijzondere gedrag van dichtbij mee te maken. Daarom organiseren we in september en oktober regelmatig bronstexcursies. Samen met de gids ga je op zoek naar deze imposante dieren en hun krachtmetingen. Er zijn ochtend- en avondexcursies op verschillende datums. Het Weerterbos is een prachtig gebied, op de grens van Limburg en Noord-Brabant. Het maakt onderdeel uit van het Grenspark KempenBroek. Sinds 2005 leven hier edelherten. In de nazomer start de paringstijd, die we de bronsttijd noemen. In die periode is er in het Weerterbos een heel bijzonder spektakel te zien en te horen. Burlende herten Het is echter niet zo eenvoudig om de edelherten te vinden. Overdag liggen ze namelijk vaak in de dekking van het bos. Maar in de ochtend- en avondschemering komen ze grazen op de graslanden. De bronsttijd is een spectaculaire periode waarin het er luidruchtig aan toe gaat en de mannetjes uitmaken wie de beste partner is voor de vrouwtjes, ook wel hindes genoemd. Het burlen galmt dan door het Weerterbos en heel soms zie je zelfs een paar herten vechten. De gids weet alles over deze imposante dieren en neemt je graag mee op avontuur. Excursiemogelijkheden De excursies vinden regelmatig plaats tussen 15 september en 13 oktober. Er zijn mogelijkheden in de ochtend (7.30 uur) en in de middag/avond (17.00 uur) De excursie duurt ongeveer 2 tot 2,5 uur, waarin we in totaal ongeveer 7 kilometer lopen.
