Palen aanpikken, de wapening klaarleggen, uitzetten waar hij de grond in moet en de stelling mee op- en afbouwen. Je staat vlak naast de machinist en de heibaas, en die zeggen in twee woorden wat er moet gebeuren. Modder en regen horen erbij.

Heien hoef je nog niet te kunnen. Dat leer je op de bouwplaats van heiers die het al jaren doen, en je begint met meekijken en aangeven. Kom je uit de bouw of het grondwerk, dan heb je een voorsprong. Kom je ergens anders vandaan maar weet je van aanpakken, dan tel je hier net zo goed mee. Hoe sneller je het oppikt, hoe eerder je zelf aan de beurt bent.

De projecten liggen door heel Nederland en lopen weken tot maanden, dus je bent doordeweeks van huis. Daar staat tegenover dat je met dezelfde ploeg één project van begin tot eind draait. Onderweg zijn overnachten en eten geregeld, en je overuren en reisuren worden uitbetaald.
