The posting

For one of our clients, we are looking for a Software Asset Management Officer to ensure the reliable, compliant, and cost-efficient management of their IT software licence portfolio.

The assignment combines administrative, analytical, and monitoring responsibilities, with close collaboration between IT, Procurement, and Finance.

The Software Asset Management Officer will contribute to licence compliance, cost optimisation, accurate reporting, and the continuous improvement of Software Asset Management (SAM) processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Software licence management: Manage the complete lifecycle of IT software licences: request, approval, acquisition, deployment, monitoring, renewal, and retirement. Maintain an accurate and up-to-date overview of active, expired, renewable, and retiring licences. Analyse software contracts, licensing terms, usage rights, and relevant clauses in collaboration with IT, Procurement, and Finance. Ensure accurate administrative and analytical follow-up of SAM activities.
  • Usage analysis & cost optimisation: Analyse software usage data to identify unused, underused, or oversized licences. Identify opportunities to optimise licence allocation and utilisation. Propose concrete actions to reduce software costs and avoid unnecessary renewals or purchases. Support the monitoring and optimisation of software renewals.
  • Reporting & monitoring: Establish and monitor KPIs covering active licences, unused licences, upcoming renewals, compliance risks, and potential savings. Prepare analyses, reports, and dashboards to support management decision-making. Ensure SAM data remains accurate, reliable, and suitable for reporting purposes.
  • Process improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of Software Asset Management processes, controls, and data quality. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to improve the efficiency and reliability of licence-management activities.

Ideal candidate

The ideal candidate combines solid experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, or IT licence management with strong analytical and administrative capabilities.

They can work independently, analyse complex licensing and usage data, identify cost-optimisation opportunities, and communicate effectively with stakeholders across IT, Procurement, and Finance.

What success looks like:

  • The software licence portfolio is accurately monitored and kept up to date.
  • Licence renewals are anticipated and managed efficiently.
  • Licence compliance risks are identified and reduced.
  • Unused and underused licences are identified to generate cost savings.
  • SAM data is accurate, reliable, and actionable.
  • Relevant reports, KPIs, and dashboards are available to management.
  • Software Asset Management processes and data quality are continuously improved.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience in Software Asset Management, IT Licence Management, IT Asset Management, IT Procurement, or a similar function.
  • Good understanding of software licensing models from major software vendors.
  • Experience analysing and monitoring software contracts and licensing terms.
  • Strong ability to analyse software usage and licence data.
  • Good knowledge of at least one analytical/reporting tool such as advanced Excel, SQL, or Power BI.
  • Experience preparing analyses, reports, and dashboards.
  • Fluent English, combined with French or Dutch.
  • Strong administrative accuracy and ability to manage multiple cases efficiently.
  • Autonomous and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership.

Strong assets:

  • Experience with SAM/ITAM tools or platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and/or Power BI.
  • Experience with software cost optimisation and licence renewal management.
  • Experience within a large enterprise or complex IT environment.
  • Experience collaborating with IT, Procurement, and Finance teams.

Professional & soft skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Autonomous, responsible, and proactive.
  • Strong ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively across different departments.
  • Results-oriented with a continuous-improvement mindset.
  • Critical and solution-oriented thinker.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
