The program showcases innovative and critical artistic practices, supporting artists locally, nationally, and internationally in creating new work. 1646 programs artists who explore critical societal ideas using strategies such as fictioning, complicating, and humor. Fiction is an essential tool for imagining the world differently. This vision translates into an ambitious exhibition programme, a residency programme, and public activities, including screenings, performances, and presentations both within and beyond the exhibition space. Internship at 1646 Working with the 1646 team is dynamic and diverse due to the wide range of activities within the organisation. During your internship, you will engage with artists and the international network of 1646, while gaining insight into the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art space. We see the internship as a learning-by-doing experience. You will contribute to the organisation of exhibitions and events and gain hands-on experience with the practical aspects of working in an art institution, including production, audience engagement, communication, and organisational development. For this internship period, two interns will be selected. The interns will collaborate closely on shared tasks and assignments and will gain experience working within a professional team environment.
